Our 2011 Concert Season concluded on a perfect summer evening Sunday, August 14th as a crowd of 300 enjoyed the musical productions featuring the University of Cincinnati Community Band bringing down the curtain on another succesful and entetaining summer of the "Second Sunday at Seven" concert series, Arlington's 14th consecutive year of sponsoring this popular community event. The "Second Sunday at Seven" series is held on the South Lawn of Arlington Lake on the second Sunday of June, July and August, respectively, as we sponsor and host a series of concerts featuring regional musical talent. The music format is predominantly "big band swing" but in recent years has featured a variety ranging from bluegrass and jazz to Miami University's Steel Drum Band. Each concert last approximately 90 minutes and admission and refreshments are provided compliments of Arlington.
The South Lawn, situated next to the lake and nestled amongst giant shade trees, offers a perfect setting for a relaxing break from the summer heat. We supply seating but encourage concert-goers to bring their own favorite lawn or lounge chair. We also provide complimentary refreshments alternating popcorn, hotdogs & chips and ice cream as well as complimentary soft drinks. Yet, you are of course welcome to pack your own basket and enjoy a leisurely picnic while listening to the music. Alcohol is prohibited and please, no pets.
The sounds of music have a long tradition at Arlington dating all the way back to early years of the 20th century when the grounds were known as Johnson's Picnic Grove and dances and other activities were quite typical events. For more on the musical history of Arlington, click here.
