To Our Arlington Families:
During the holiday season, we provide a meaningful venue for Arlington families to join together for a special afternoon dedicated to remembering the lives of loved ones who are laid to rest here in our gardens.
The special afternoon consists of two components. From 3:00 – 3:45 PM, we welcome the incredible talents of members of the Cincinnati Brass Band performing selections appropriate for the holiday season and the occasion. We know from various studies that music can uplift our soul, awaken the spirit and lighten the heart. It can also clear our minds and conjure up memories. We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to remember through this musical experience.
At 4:00 PM, our Remembrance & Candle Lighting Service begins with Andrea Raynor presiding. We are pleased to welcome back Ms. Raynor who is a native of Colerain, a graduate of the Harvard Divinity School and a United Methodist minister who lives in Rye, New York. Following the terrorist attacks of the Twin Towers, she served as a chaplain to the morgue at Ground Zero. She has authored several books including The Alphabet of Grief: Words to Help in Times of Sorrow and has lectured on the subject of grief extensively.
Ms. Raynor’s message is powerful and uplifting. She promotes the idea that we are not alone and in her book, she notes that “The more we lovingly and tenderly reach for each other, the less isolating grief will feel.” We join together in this service to not only pay tribute to our loved ones but also to support one another. At the conclusion of the Remembrance Service, we will gather outside for the lighting of Arlington’s Memory Christmas Tree, a tradition we began in 2016.
While the Christmas Season is considered a joyful time of the year, we realize that it’s also a time when we can struggle from a loss, especially if we attempt to go it alone. This is an opportunity to come together as a supportive Arlington community and we hope you’ll join us on for either the Musical Ensemble, the Remembrance Service – or as we hope, both. We look forward to hosting you and your family on this very special afternoon.
