A message from the family:

“Mom was born on Christmas Day. The doctor was hunting and almost didn’t make it on time for her birth. He said any baby girl born on Christmas Day should be named Mary; her dad said baby’s name is Barbara; and her mom said Shannon. Mom grew up with the legal name Barbara, but her family and friends know her as Shannon. She was born in Rose Hill Virginia. Her family moved to Cincinnati when she was a young girl. Growing up in downtown Cincinnati, she was very much a city girl. She took the city busses and played in old, abandoned buildings: jumping up and down stairs in the old buildings was something she was especially good at. Mom also loved roller skating. Mom was a teenager when she earned her cosmetology license. She was extremely gifted in her ability to cut and style hair. Moms favorite place to travel was Hawaii. She visited Jamie when he was serving there, and she went back when C.J was born. Mom loved us all. She was always there behind us, supporting us, caring for us loving us. We’re so thankful that, as she faced this devastating diagnosis, she immediately turned to God and asked him to carry her through those days. She wanted to be baptized but said it had to be in a river. Since she was in the hospital, Dave brought a river rock soaked in river water to her room…and she was happy with that. Mom fully trusted God with her soul. What we will always remember most about mom is her great love. She loved deeply.”
