Darrel Dallas Yeazel, 98, died Sunday, April 7, 2019, at Broward Health North, Broward County, Deerfield Beach Florida of heart failure.
He leaves his wife of 77 years, Lillie Mae (Witt) Yeazel; his daughter Tahanna Schenkel; his son Duane Yeazel and his spouse Kathy (Ortwein) Yeazel. His grandchildren, Jeff Schenkel and wife Penny Schenkel; Mark Schenkel and his spouse Amy Stoll; Katlyn Yeazel. His great grandchildren, David Schenkel and Jacob Schenkel.
Born on March 6, 1921 and raised in Reading, Ohio, the son of Charles Dallas Yeazel and Viola Teresa Matra, he was a lifelong resident of Cincinnati, Ohio but spent his winters in Deerfield Beach, Florida during his retirement years.
In his early years, Darrel was a member of the United States Coast Guard, serving aboard the U.S.S. Basswood during World War II. Darrel was a member of the Masons for 65 years. After serving in the Coast Guard, Darrel worked at New York Central Railroad (later named Conrail) as a conductor.
Darrel had a passion for nature. He loved to watch and feed the birds. He also loved gardening. Darrel would take a discarded plant from others and nurture it back to health. He was a lover of animals and they loved him.
A funeral service will be held at his graveside at Arlington Memorial Gardens, 2145 Compton Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45231, at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17, 2019.
