ALVERSON, Donald C., age 93, died on August 9, 2019. He is survived by his precious family: his wife of 66 years, Elaine; his two daughters, Jan (Jack) Schrom and Jill (Tom) Wittekind; his two granddaughters, Casey (Tanveer Ali) Wittekind and Courtney Wittekind; and dear sisters, nieces, nephews and friends.
Don graduated from Dayton (Kentucky) High School in 1944 as a member of a class of 35 graduates. After graduation, he attended the US Merchant Marine Academy for officers training and served his country proudly. In 1952, Don enlisted in the US Marine Corp, receiving an honorable discharge and returning to Cincinnati, Ohio with his wife and young daughter in 1954.
Don’s busy life included serving the Monfort Heights United Methodist Church for over 64 years as lay leader, youth leader, teacher, and many other ministries. He was employed by Procter & Gamble for 18 years and simultaneously attended night courses at the University of Cincinnati for 8 years, receiving his certification in electronics. He used this training to establish a television repair service from his home.
When Don left Procter & Gamble, he tackled the development of a data retrieval system with Access Corporation, and then used that experience to pave an entry into electronic instrumentation industrial sales with Westinghouse. Don remained with Westinghouse until his retirement in 1990.
Don was a member of the Cincinnati Ohio Jaycees, the Cincinnati Rotary Club, and the Cincinnati Exchange Club, where he served as both President and Treasurer. During his retirement, he enjoyed serving on the Eagles Lake Condominium Association’s Board of Trustees.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Monfort Heights United Methodist Church, 3682 West Fork Rd., Cincinnati, OH 45247 at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, August 20, 2019. Interment will be at Arlington Memorial Gardens on Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at 10:00 AM.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Monfort Heights United Methodist Church Endowment Fund.
