John Race

John Race, 80, passed peacefully from this life on October 21, 2021. John was born on March 11, 1941, in Cincinnati, Ohio to Chester and Bess Race (nee Hayes). He and his parents were lifelong members of Westwood United Methodist Church. He shared a love of music with his mother, sang, and learned to play various instruments. He enjoyed ham radio and woodworking projects with his father. In high school and college, John played in a band and worked for a radio station. He was active in DeMolay, Delta Tau Delta, and the Western Hills – Cheviot Masonic Lodge. John was proud of his service to our country as an Army medic during the Vietnam War.

John attended Western Hills High School, majored in economics at Ohio Wesleyan University, and earned a MBA at the University of Cincinnati. He began his professional career at Proctor and Gamble. He went on to trade silver and gold on the commodities market in Chicago and worked in brokerage for the Ohio Company. He later partnered to run several small companies in Cincinnati. He was a computer consultant for many years, working with the Art Academy of Cincinnati, the Cincinnati VA, the University of Cincinnati, and many individual clients. In his later years, John donated his time and audiovisual skills to various churches.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Chet and Bess, whom he dearly loved. He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Race, and grandson, Taylor Race.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2021, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at The Arlington Memorial Gardens Funeral Home (Upon entering the Memorial Park follow the light blue line.) Services will begin at 11:00 AM with burial to follow at Arlington Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the charity of your choice in John’s name.
