A DEATH
HAS OCCURRED
She is Gone
Flora Blackmore
11/21/1951-7/20/2025
Lost my wife, Flo, this past week. It is heartbreaking to face the reality she is gone… but, finally she is free. Flo withstood the ravages of Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD) for 15 years. She was an inspiration throughout her life in both sickness and health. It was rare when she didn’t offer a smile or infectious grin and laugh with her family and friends, even in the midst of her suffering with this intolerable illness.
Flo did it all- from riding motorcycles, flying planes, building boats, working in the business world, in developing friends from every walk of life. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and my trusted partner for 37 years. I was a lucky man to have had this incredible lady in my life.
The following quote, I believe, best speaks as an accurate perspective on the loss of a most special individual…
“You can shed tears that she is gone, or you can smile because she lived, you can close your eyes and pray she will come back, or you can open your eyes and see all she has left.” (Harkins)
Flo is survived by her loving husband, Barry Blackmore; children, Danielle (Andrew) Albertson, and Ryan (Brandy) Blackmore; grandchildren, Taylor Blackmore, Dylan Blackmore, Jack Albertson, Emma Albertson, Connor Albertson, and Ethan Albertson; sister, Halee (nee Hough) Zaragoza; sister-in-laws, Susan (Michael) Graham, and Jana Holl.
Flo was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mildred Mills, and Ernest and Rebecca Hough, as well as brother-in-law David Blackmore.
Memorial contributions in honor of Flo can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Cincinnati Chapter at https://www.alz.org/cincinnati?form=FUNDHYMMBXU, or to Gentiva Hospice at 1-877-907-8078.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 5, 2025 from 12:30-1:30pm at the Arlington Memorial Gardens Lakeside Mausoleum Chapel, 2145 Compton Road, Cincinnati, OH 45231 (Follow the RED Line). A memorial service will follow at 1:30pm. Inurnment will take place at 2:30pm at the Arlington Memorial Gardens.

“Barry: Charlene and I are very sorry to hear of Flo’s passing. I know from experience, my brother, that it was a long, difficult journey for both of you. We never got to know her, but from what others have said, she was a saintly and loving person. Cherish the memories and savor the time that you spent together, but, eventually you might realize, as I did, that you must move on with your life, whatever that might mean to you personally. Give me a call sometime. It would be nice to get together for lunch. God bless!”

“We’ve been holding Flo and Barry in our hearts and prayers for many years through this long and painful journey. We will continue to do so because they have always been some of our most cherished friends in the whole world. When I think of Flo, the first image that always comes to mind is that perpetual impish grin of hers! Nobody loved to laugh more than Flo and that’s how I will always think of our dear sweet friend….grinning! Wishing all of the Blackmore family so much love! Judy & Joe”
