Field of Memories Turns 10: Honoring Courage, Sacrifice, and Survival

As we approach Memorial Day Weekend, we take a moment to reflect on the significance of this solemn holiday. Memorial Day is a time to honor and remember the brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. Their dedication and courage will always be in our hearts.

This year marks a special milestone for Arlington Memorial Gardens as we celebrate the 10th Annual Field of Memories. This cherished tradition began in 2015 with an idea and some desire to unite our community to honor and acknowledge the true meaning of Memorial Day.

This page outlines the special events, activities, and a never-before-seen Cincinnati premier of a heart-pounding documentary. Read on to learn more.

Defying Death on the Atlantic Documentary

Arlington has obtained the exclusive right to premiere this new PBS documentary that tells the story of a four-man rowing team of Air Force Veterans known as “Team Fight Oar Die,” that embarked on a perilous 3,000-mile ocean rowing race to raise money and create awareness for veterans experiencing mental illness. The 1-hour movie will be shown in the Lakeside Chapel on Saturday, May 24 at 1 PM and 4 PM and Sunday, May 25 at 2 PM.

Here are three meaningful ways you can participate in this year’s 10th Annual Field of Memories Celebration:

Get Involved - Purchase a Flag Dedication

PURCHASE A FLAG DEDICATION

Each of the 1,000 flags that wave across our grounds is a powerful tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice, veterans, first responders, public servants, and personal heroes. For a $40 donation, you can dedicate a flag in someone’s honor. Proceeds from flag dedications benefit Ramp It Up for Veterans, an organization that builds access ramps for veterans with mobility challenges. Dedications can be made online or by calling our office now through May 22.

Get Involved - Volunteer Opportunties

VOLUNTEER AT THE FIELD OF MEMORIES

With over 10,000 visitors expected throughout the weekend, volunteers play a vital role in making the event a smooth and welcoming experience. There are many ways to lend a hand, from greeting guests to assisting with parking, managing displays, or helping with Sunday’s community lunch. Volunteer shifts are just a few hours long, and every bit of help makes a difference. The sign-up link below provides a complete list of available opportunities and time slots. Be a part of this memorable event with us!

Get Involved - Become a Sponsor
