It’s “Raising the Flag Day” at The Field of Memories

The Arlington Memorial Gardens is honored to present its ninth annual “Field of Memories” event, an awe-inspiring display of patriotism and gratitude. Despite a thunderstorm and showers this morning, the sun emerged, and over fifty dedicated volunteers embarked on the heartfelt task of raising nearly 1,000 American flags, each measuring 3 feet by 5 feet.

A Tribute To America’s Heroes

These flags, fluttering proudly in a post-shower breeze, represent more than mere symbols of our nation. Each one is a tribute, a dedication to personal heroes from the Tri-State area. Among these tributes, some are dedicated to military members who have made the ultimate sacrifice, ensuring our freedoms with their lives. Others pay homage to those currently on active duty or retired military personnel who have served with distinction. Additionally, many flags are dedicated to public servants, such as firefighters and police officers, who safeguard our communities daily. There are even flags that celebrate personal heroes, those individuals who have made a significant impact in someone’s life through their acts of kindness, courage, or support.

At Arlington, we recognize that Memorial Day is a solemn occasion primarily focused on remembering those who have given their lives in service to our country.
