Anita Gayle McKinney

Anita Gayle McKinney

Anita G. McKinney, 64, of Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away on October 12, 2024, in the presence of loving family at her home.  She was born on September 29, 1960 in Louisa, Virginia to Leslie and Betty (nee Thomas) Marksberry.

Anita was a loving mother to Jason and Amy, wife of John, sister, aunt, and friend.  She was a bright light of genuine kindness to everyone that had the fortune to meet her.  She loved the outdoors, camping, dancing, attending theater, and holding many volunteer positions throughout her life supporting causes dear to her heart such as mental health, animal welfare, and the arts.

Anita obtained an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Occupational Therapy at Cincinnati State Technical and Community college.  She thrived as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) while serving at Providence Hospital, Hamilton County Educational Services Center, and Mercy Fairfield Hospital.

Anita will always be remembered by her loving husband of over 42 years, John McKinney, daughter Amy Hornsberger, and her dearly cherished grandchildren, Colin, Graham, and Alice.  Anita is also survived by her siblings, Tina (Kevin) Brown, Sherry (Bob Rose) Evangelo, Shawn (Megan) Marksberry, Thomas (Amanda) Freeman, Paul (Laura) Freeman, Gary (Becky) Freeman, and Tammy Freeman as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends … and Belle and Mitch, her beloved dogs.

Anita was preceded in death by her son, Jason McKinney and her sister, Beverly Dunaway.

Her celebration of life will be held October 30, 2024 at the Arlington Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 2155 Compton Road, 45231.  Visitation begins at 12:30 PM followed by a Memorial Service at 1:30 PM.  Once on the grounds of the memorial part, turn LEFT and follow the BLUE line to the funeral home.

Anita will be laid to rest at Arlington Memorial Gardens.
