David A. Pope

Mr. David A. Pope, age 91, passed away surrounded by his family on October 31, 2022.

David was born in Sunrise, Kentucky to Maurice and Adgie Pope. David married Margaret (McAvoy) Pope of Cincinnati, Ohio on October 10, 1953.

David is survived by his wife, Margaret Pope; children: Michael (Kitty) Pope and Lynn (Dean) Wickert; grandchildren: Melissa (Sam) Winkle, Rebecca (Brad) Gruber, Matthew (Jerusha) Wickert, Sandra (Chad) Haboush, Laura Wickert and Deborah Wickert, and 13 great grandchildren. Also loved by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings.

Dave graduated from Western Hills High School in Cincinnati, Ohio and soon joined the United States Navy. He spent 18 months as a Navy Corpsman with a Marine unit in the Korean conflict, where he earned two Purple Hearts and a bronze star for valor.

He wed Margaret in 1953 and began working for the City of Cincinnati where he worked for 32 years, retiring as a Superintendent. He then worked for Queen City Blacktop for 10 years. His retirement years were spent enjoying his grandchildren and working out in his yard.

Family was everything to Dave, and his greatest smiles, hugest hugs, and heartiest laughs were given to them.

Visitation and funeral services for Mr. David Pope will be Friday, November 4, 2022, at 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM at The Arlington Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. (Follow the blue line to the Funeral Home once on the cemetery grounds.)  Burial to follow at Arlington Memorial Gardens.

In honor of David’s life, you may make memorial donations to Hospice of Cincinnati or Matthew 25 Ministries.
