A DEATH
HAS OCCURRED
Douglas (Doug) Raymond Batt, 59, of Independence, Kentucky, passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2025.
Doug was born on July 4, 1965, in Defiance, Ohio to Patricia and Roger Batt. He grew up in Defiance and graduated from Defiance High School, home of the Bulldogs, in 1983. He went on to attend the University of Cincinnati where he received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Civil Engineering.
Over the years, Doug built a career in geotechnical engineering, working at several firms early in his career and eventually landing a role with CTL Engineering, where he spent the past twenty-one years as a branch manager, working on projects that can be seen around the Tri-State area. Outside of work, he enjoyed golfing, proudly cheering on every Cincinnati sports team, preparing meals for his friends and family, traveling the world with his partner, Deanna, and being a loving grandfather, father, son, brother, partner, friend, and uncle.
Doug will be remembered for his sharp wit, boisterous laugh, and dedication to his family and friends. His spirit will live on through all those he coached, worked with, and laughed with.
He is survived by his mother Patricia, brothers Eric, Craig, Kevin, and Kyle, sisters Renee and Adrianne, children, Ryan, Madison, and Sean, grandson Kiaan, and partner, Deanna, and preceded in death by his father, Roger Batt, and stepfather, Allan Wise.

“Doug, we are going to miss you. Many times you said to us, That’s OK, when we called you. You showed us tolerance.”

“To the Batt Family – God’s Peace be with you all. Lean in and on each other. Addie and some of “us girls” were celebrating 50 years of girls softball and never dreamed this same day would hold such a loss. All of us that went to school with Doug remember him fondly even though it’s been years since we graduated. Chris (Darrah) Wills”

“A man of the ages. He was someone special to every person he came into contact with in every conversation. Like Jesus, he laughed, listened, and connected with you whether talking sports, family, and every other subject that mattered. Doug, thank you for being the friend you could connect with every once in a while and yet pick us up as if we just said goodbye yesterday. Jacksonville, New Years Day basketball, Golf Trips, random parties with friends generate memories that make us laugh and now appreciate how you made the world a better place!”

“I have done business with Doug for nearly 25 years – he bought my lunch (and my loyalty) when I was just a co-op at Cincinnati in the late 90’s, and has been my go-to man for geotech expertise ever since. We just spoke a few days ago – he was giving me ideas on the best way to build a brick paver patio at my house and I was just about to send him a photo of the finished product when I heard the sad news. I will miss our chats on the phone, our yearly plans to meet up at OTEC that always fell through, his expertise, and that great big voice! You were one of the best, Doug! You’ll be missed”

“Doug…I could write an entire book about all of our shared stories. Suffice it to say that I will miss you forever and you will never be forgotten.”

“A grew to know Doug a lot better the last six months as both he and I transitioned to new positions at CTL at the same time. Doug took an interest in me to be a mentor. Over the last few months, I grew to think of him more as a friend as well. His willingness to listen and understand people is not as common as it should be. I will miss the well-natured sarcastic ribbing between the two of us and the listening ear he was always willing to provide. I am heartbroken for his family.”

“You and the other brothers Batt, were all the brothers I did not have the good fortune of having for my own. But oh the memories you and your brothers provided to my childhood. You always puffed up your chest and charged ahead, even against Eric’s physical strength and Kevin and Craig’s intelligence. You simply never took a step backwards from anyone. Now you have the lead for us all to yourself. Get the field ready little brother, we will join you soon enough. And then the games can resume again and we will laugh like we never laughed before.”

“Condolences to all. So sad and way too young. All are added to my ever growing prayer list.”
