Henrietta C. Vesper

april 2, 1934 – december 27, 2024

Henrietta C. Vesper

Henrietta Casanova Vesper, beloved by many, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2024, at the age of 90. Born in San Antonio, TX, on April 2, 1934, Henrietta was proud of her Hispanic heritage and cherished her roots throughout her life. She will be remembered by all who knew her for her kindness, her infectious laughter, and her deep love for her family.

Henrietta was the devoted wife of the late Richard J. Vesper and is survived by her son, Joseph Vesper, and his wife, Alice; her grandsons, Joseph and Benjamin; and countless nieces, nephews, family members, and friends who will deeply miss her vibrant spirit. She was preceded in death by her beloved siblings: Esther Tijerina, Simon Casanova, Maria Jesus Casanova, Otilia Hernandez, Bea Santos, and Robert Casanova.

Throughout her life, Henrietta found joy in the simple pleasures. She enjoyed playing Bingo, spending time coloring, and was known for her beautiful handmade jewelry and shoes, which she crafted with love during her years as a jewelry maker at Superior Jewelry. A true homemaker at heart, she created unforgettable holiday meals that brought her family together. She was a devoted Catholic and found comfort in the songs of her youth, including the classics from the 30s, often humming along to “Que Sera, Sera” by Doris Day.

Henrietta was a lover of nature, especially hummingbirds, which she delighted in watching as they visited her feeders. She cherished her time with her grandsons, taking them on adventures and sharing in the joy of their laughter. Henrietta’s warmth and love for dogs added to her vibrant personality that touched everyone she met.

To honor Henrietta’s life, a funeral service will be held at Arlington Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Thursday, January 2, 2025, beginning with a visitation at 4:00 PM, and the service at 5:00 PM. Following her wishes, Henrietta will be cremated. Family and friends are invited to join in celebrating her life and sharing cherished memories.

As we gather to remember Henrietta, we will reflect on her legacy of love, resilience, and joy, cherishing the moments that shaped her beautiful life. She will forever hold a special place in our hearts.

“Dear Joe, Alice, Joey and Ben, we are so sorry for your and our loss. I feel blessed that we were able to visit Aunt Keta last June. I have so many precious memories of the times we spent with her and Uncle Red, especially those when I was young and they would pick me up to spend the whole weekend at their house. We always had so much fun talking and laughing and we never ran out of words. She and I loved flowers, pink was both our favorite color. I always made sure there were a lot of pink flowers in the bouquets we’d send. Now I have this last chance to do that. Aunt Keta, we love you and will miss you so much. We are grateful that we had you in our lives. I’m happy that you are now celebrating in Heaven with Uncle Red and the rest of your family. Lonie & Ken.”

“We will truly miss Aunt Keta! She and Uncle Red were a large part of my childhood memories. Every summer we would go to Cincinnati (and Kings Island). They would be so happy to have us there, and their home always felt like home! When my dad passed away, Aunt Keta gave us much comfort. My dad mentioned seeing a little girl right before he passed. Aunt Keta told me that was their sister, who passed away as a child, Aunt Tillie saw her leading my dad to Heaven. Maybe she came to accompany Aunt Keta Home too. The last couple of times Aunt Keta called me, she told me some great stories from their childhood—I will always treasure those long conversations I had with her. Joe and family, you were so blessed to have her so long. We will see them again someday. Love and hugs to you all! 💜”

“We called her Aunt Keta. She was a kind and caring Aunt to all of us. She loved children and was always cooking and baking things for us. She and Uncle Red were our only Aunt and Uncle who were local and we were very close to them. She loved her son, Joe and her grandsons, Joey and Ben more than anything in this world! She will be greatly missed by many, but find peace knowing that she is now resting in the arms of Our Lord. We pray for peace and comfort for Joe, Alice, Joey and Ben.”

“To my cousin Joe & Alice and of course their boys Joey and Ben my heart is with you all especially on these times of missing Tia (aunt) Keta she was always so loving and caring to everybody and she was close to my mom her sister Esther who I know in my heart she is waiting for her with open arms to give her so many hugs cause that’s what they did all the time and together they will be singing un dia a la vez (one day at a time) which was one of their favorite songs. Love and miss you Tia Keta my prayers are with you and your beautiful family hugs and kisses to all of you from your cousin in San Antonio, Texas”

“I’m Alice’s younger brother, Steve. No real relation to the Vesper family, except for that. I’ve seen Keta & Red NUMEROUS times since Joe & Alice married, and I loved them both like an aunt or uncle. They were always warm, kind, and generous to me. During my 20 years in the Air Force, I stopped by to say hello, and even more after I retired and moved an hour away to Dayton. I liked hearing Keta’s stories about her family and past & present life. She’d call me up on the phone and we’d laugh for an hour or more! My deepest condolences to her family & friends. She truly was a person who touched others. She will be sorely missed. May she rest in peace.”

“Dearest Aunt Keta, My heartfelt condolences to your beloved son Joseph and wife Alice and your grandsons whom you adored. I will cherish all my memories of when you and Uncle Red came to visit Grandma and Grandpa Hernandez; especially the time when we made Grandma laugh so hard her false teeth popped out onto the picnic table. Oh! How we laughed!!! I am so grateful for the love you showed to my Mum and for all the Christmas cards you sent over the years. I am extremely thankful for our phone calls and how you always sang “Baby Love” to me. May you rejoice in Heaven with your beloved Lord Jesus. Much love until we see each other again in Heaven. Gina-Marie”

“To son Joe and Alice Vesper, and to grandsons, Joe and Ben, I really enjoyed the friendship with my next door neighbor, Keta. She always loved time to sit and talk, listen to music, and to play Uno. And she especially loved having my dog, Daisy, visit her in her own home or in the nursing home. She would light up and sing out, “Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer, do…” She had a special place in her heart for dogs and children. And she was so proud of her family, who supported her so well.”
