James Anthony Riese

MARCH 19, 1951 – FEBRUARY 10, 2025

James Anthony Riese

James “Jim” Riese March 19, 1951 – February 10, 2025

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of James Anthony Riese, 73, of North Carolina, who passed away peacefully on February 10, 2025.

Jim was born in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Fredrick and Helen Riese.  Jim was preceded in death by his siblings, Kathleen Gamble (nee Riese) and Fredrick Riese.  He is survived by his dear sisters, Sr. Judith Riese and Paula (David) Hines, and the love of his life – devoted wife, Eudie Riese.  Jim was a proud and loving father to Anthony (Amy) Riese and Angela Riese, as well as a cherished stepfather to Jack (Christopher) Lyons and Nikki Herth.  His legacy continues through his adored grandchildren Milo, Larry (Leanna), Kaylynn, and Logan, and his great-grandson Levi, who all brought him endless happiness.  Jim also made a lasting impact on his numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and lifelong friends.

Jim graduated from La Salle high school with honors in 1969, lettering in football all 4 years, then going on to receive a higher education at Case Western Reserve University on scholarship.  He spent his entire career in the food service industry where his dedication to success earned the respect and admiration of colleagues throughout his career, retiring from Smithfield in 2017.  Jim took immense pride in his work ethic and was highly regarded for his straightforward communication style and leadership.  Though he loved his career, and the partnerships forged with colleagues, in recent years, he found even greater joy in retirement, spending precious time with his family and embracing the simple pleasures of life.  His passion for golfing and Cincinnati sports was well known, although they both brought him happiness and frustration.

Jim was a man who loved his family, always saying they were his greatest accomplishment in life. He never met a stranger and was known for his larger-than-life laugh, quick wit, and kindhearted nature. Whether on the golf course, sharing a cold drink with friends, or taking long truck rides with his loyal companion Atlas, Jim embraced every moment with enthusiasm. Jim’s easygoing nature, warmth, and infectious laughter will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. While his presence can never be replaced, his spirit will live on in the hearts of those he loved. The family asks that you raise a glass, share a story, and honor Jim’s memory in the way he would have wanted—with laughter and love.
