A DEATH
HAS OCCURRED
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of James Matherly, a beloved father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Born on December 30, 1930, in Cincinnati, Ohio, James sadly departed on November 12, 2024.
James led a remarkable life filled with passion for sports, as he coached Little League in his younger days and enjoyed ushering baseball at Crosley Field and football and basketball games at UC. A proud US Air Force veteran, he served as a Radio Operator.
Throughout his life, James found joy in dancing with his late wife, Helen, at various venues, including VFW Halls, Bobby Mackey, and the Boulevard. He had a lasting love for live theater and was a loyal season ticket holder at the Aronoff Theatre.
In his retirement years, he had the pleasure of traveling with his daughter Janet, exploring destinations such as Los Angeles, where he relished the ocean views and visits to celebrity gravesites. His legacy includes sharing special moments with his daughters, like playing Bingo and creating memories with his grandchildren.
James will be lovingly remembered by his daughters Janet (David Kortekamp) Matherly and Joyce (Keith) Fischer, along with his cherished grandchildren, Emily (Matthew) Williams, and Amber (Douglas) Rolf, his great-grandchildren, Olivia, Alexander, Jackson and Scarlett, and his friends.
James was preceded in death by his parents, James and Katherine Matherly (nee Lund), his loving wife, Helen Matherly, and his siblings, Mary, Carl and Burnell.
Services will be held at the Arlington Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 2155 Compton Road, 45231 on Monday, November 18, 2024, beginning at 11:00 am. Burial in the Garden of 23rd Psalm immediately following.
