Obituary via Megie Funeral Home

James Neil Bengtson, 82, of Cincinnati, OH, went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on February 13, 2024, at Good Samaritan Hospital Cincinnati, OH.

Jim was born May 30, 1941, in Hallock, MN where he grew up and attended Grace Lutheran Church with his family.

He excelled in football, basketball, baseball, band, and choir during high school. He attended UND in Grand Forks, as well as MSU in Moorhead, MN. He was an officer navigator in the US Navy.

He lived and worked most of his adult life in and around Cincinnati. He spent the last 13 years as a resident of Mt. Washington Care Center where he captured the hearts of the residents and staff. He loved daily activities,(bingo being his all-time favorite especially when us kids came to play), holding the title of King of Hearts on Valentines Day, dressing up in costumes on Halloween (hoping to take the top prize), decorating his room for Christmas and watching sports. He was an avid reader: newspaper front to back daily never missing a crossword puzzle, and books from the library when they visited. He loved to go on outings with the center and his family. His favorites were the casino and Reds games. And finally, he loved karaoke, singing on many occasions to his fellow residents.

He was a loving son, husband, and father. He was known by Mr. Bengtson, James, Jim, Jimmy, and Swede; however, he was especially proud of being known as the greatest Poppaw.

We all thought he hung the moon for each of us in his own unique way.

We know he is in Heaven with Jesus singing in the choir of angels; we will always wish we had more time with him here on earth.

Thanks for being our Dad, Poppaw and friend. We Love You❤

Preceding him in death were his parents, Leonard, and Alice (Bremer) Bengtson, his wife, Linda (Stamper) Bengtson, sister Carol (Bengtson) Broadwell, and brother-in-law Dick Werner.

He is survived by his children Melanie (Robert), Valerie, Wendy (David), Kimberly (Damian) and David (Jennifer); his grandchildren Nicole, Brittany, Erica, Jaimee, Kristina(Kyle), Katelyn, Matthew(Alyson), Kayla, Blake, and Hunter(Evey); and great-grandchildren; Joshua, Savannah, Jesse, Jace, Levi, Logan, Vincent, Monroe, and Delilah; his sister Judy Werner of Fergus Falls, MN, brother Phil (Janelle) Bengtson of Kennedy, MN, brother-in-law Jay Broadwell of North Carolina, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at 12:00 pm on February 23, 2024, at Megie Funeral Home, 529 Main St., Milford, Ohio, with Funeral Service to follow at 1 PM in the Craver Chapel. Burial will follow at Arlington Memorial Gardens, 2145 Compton Rd, Cincinnati, Ohio 45231 at 2:30 pm to include full military honors.
