James Richard Gunnigle

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Richard Gunnigle, who left us peacefully on May 22, 2026, at the age of 89. Born on May 15, 1937, in Oconee, Illinois. James was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

James cherished his Irish heritage and took pride in his family’s roots, often regaling others with tales of his travels, particularly to Ireland. In his spare time, Jim loved to hit the golf course, always a competitive spirit. His refined sense of humor created laughter and warmth wherever he went, and he treasured the simple pleasures of life, including his favorite Quatman’s hamburgers. Above all, James especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

James is survived by his beloved wife, Judith Gunnigle, as well as his children, Debra (Randy) Hauer, James “Mike” Gunnigle and Scott (Elizabeth) Gunnigle. He was a devoted grandfather to Drew Hauer, Aaron “Bill” (Amy) Hauer, Daniel (Jenny) Hauer, Haley Hauer, Carter (Grace) Gunnigle, Kelly Gunnigle, Caroline (Matt) Arendt, Carson (Hunter) Meadows, Davis Gunnigle and Catherine Gunnigle. He was extremely proud of his eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Bob Gunnigle.

James was preceded in death by his parents James and Mildred Gunnigle, and his siblings Grace Skinner, Don Denning, Sally Perry and Tom Gunnigle.
