Jean A. Frye

October 2, 1937 – February 9, 2023

Jean A. Frye

Jean Ann Kapnick Frye, 85, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 9, 2023.

She was born on October 2, 1937, in Adrian, Michigan, the daughter of the late Arthur and

Christine Kapnick.

Jean, the first of four girls, grew up in Adrian, where, as a child, she met the love of her life,

James “Jim” Frye, to whom she would be happily married for 66 years. After graduating high

school and attending Adrian College, Jean married Jim and started a family. With three children

by the age of 23, Jean was a most loving and devoted wife and mother. As a homemaker, Jean

gave selflessly to her family, forever putting their needs first. She gladly supported her family’s

childhood activities, often volunteering when needed and always attending performances and

games. A talented cook, Jean prepared homemade meals from scratch every night. She

willingly shared recipes, many of which she created.

Jean’s greatest joy was her grandchildren. She loved them all dearly and treasured spending.

time with each of them and they adored her in return.

A longtime member of Messiah and then Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, Jean enjoyed

serving in any way needed. She was a favorite Greeter due to her welcoming nature and warm

smile. Always well read, including at times receiving multiple newspapers each day, Jean liked

staying abreast of current events. A great source of trivia and a fan of crossword puzzles, Jean

was a competitive game player be it cards, board games or ping-pong. With her green thumb,

Jean created beautiful gardens and landscaping awarding her “Yard of the Month” honors many

times.

Second only to her ever growing family, dogs of all kinds were close to Jean’s heart. She never

saw a dog she didn’t like or want to pet. The family hounds were partial to her never straying

far from her side. Always an avid walker, Jean especially enjoyed taking the dog for long walks

on their private beach while she and Jim lived temporarily in Frostproof, Florida.

Jean is survived by her husband Jim Frye. Children; Jeff (Christy) Frye, Janine (Tom) Keeton, Julie

(Blair) Harris. Grandchildren; Andrew (Lucy) Frye, Allison (Lennie) Castellaneta, Alisa (Conor)

Leahy, Claire (Alex) Keeton, Anna Keeton, and Russell Harris. Great grandchildren Teagan,

Conor, Bryn, Dessa, Emerson, Lennon, and Quinn. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, and

extended family members.

Jean was preceded in death by her sisters Judy, Janice and Joanne and granddaughter Caroline

Harris.

A Memorial service for Jean will be held on Friday February 24, 2023, at 2:00 PM at The

Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church (11981 Pippin Road Cincinnati Ohio 45231).

Guest Book

“Jean and I grew up together in Adrian, Michigan. We were neighbors, friends and went to school together and attended confirmation classes and confirmed together. We spent many happy hours playing canasta at her house. Jeans mom was a great cook and Jean followed in her footsteps. She will be missed. Blessings on her family at this difficult time!”
