Jean Lillian Jacobs Tancous, age 96, of Green Township, went to be with our Lord on October 6th, 2022. She was born January 20th, 1926 in Cincinnati (Mack) Ohio to Nellie Ruth (McGee) Jacobs and George James Jacobs.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Ernest O. Tancous and sibling George Jacobs, Jr.
She is survived by Son, John W. (Betsy) Tancous of Akron, OH; Daughter, Judy A. (William) Thompson of Columbus, OH; Grandchildren: Emily (Collin) Ferguson, Catherine (Justin) Miller, Stephanie Tancous, Laura (Adam) Gossett and Natalie (Scott) Shellhorn; Great Grandchildren: Adelyn, McKenna and Brynlee Ferguson, William Gossett, Bodie and Callie Miller, and Emery Shellhorn.
Jean graduated from the University of Cincinnati (U.C.) holding a B.A. degree in Chemistry (1946) and an M.S. degree in Leather Chemistry (1949). She worked as a leather chemist for 37 years (1949-1986) with the Tanners’ Council Research Laboratory, located on the U.C. campus, which conducted research for the leather tanning industry. She was elected three times as president of the American Leather Chemist Association, published over 54 articles in professional journals and presented over 40 lectures/papers to her colleagues at the ALCA. After retirement (1986) she built a testing lab in her home and continued providing consulting services for the leather industry for another 32 years.
Jean loved researching everything, recording statistics (football), bird watching, growing plants, playing the piano, puzzles, cryptograms, sewing and reading to her grandchildren.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to the Westwood United Methodist Church, 3460 Epworth Ave., Cincinnati, OH 54211 and/or National Church Residences (Hospice), 2245 North Bank Drive, Columbus, OH 43220.
