Obituary via Mihovk Rosenacker Funeral Home

Joan C. Spriggs (nee Lemmink) passed away peacefully on Friday, July 19, 2024, at the age of 81. She was born to the late John and Gertrude Lemmink on December 27, 1942, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Joan was the beloved wife of the late Joseph P. Spriggs; loving mother of Paula (Glenn) Wagner, Linda (Mark) Hendrickson, Joe (Somer) Spriggs, Carrie (Greg) Gavin, and the late Daniel Christian Spriggs; cherished grandmother of Brent (Jenna), Jake (Tessa), Tyler (Segi), Ally, Mitchell, Rylie, Holly (Michael), William, McKenna, Madilyn, and Natalie; treasured great-grandmother of Avery, Joey, Sage, and one on the way; beloved sister of Robert (Jo Ann) Lemmink, and the late Virginia (Harold) Reichel, Edward (Helen) Lemmink, Dorothy (Nick) Calardo, and Donald (Caroline) Lemmink; and dear sister-in-law of Robert (the late Ruby) and the late Edward (Marilynn) Spriggs. Joan is also survived by numerous loving nieces, nephews, and friends.

Joan loved cheering on the Cincinnati Reds and also gained great pleasure from reading. She had an immense collection of books and especially loved cookbooks and books that took her back to the “good old days”. But one of her greatest passions was her incredible love for animals and particularly her dogs. She provided a great home for her dogs and loved spoiling them with trips to the dog park and special treats. In return they gave her joy and unconditional love.

Joan had a deeply nurturing spirit and was a shining example of selflessness and contentment. She generously shared her time and talents volunteering for groups like the school cafeteria, the library, the Cincinnati VA Hospital, and the Ronald McDonald House. Not many people in the world are truly content; Joan’s motto was “waste not, want not.” She will be remembered fondly for her warm smile, gentle nature, great sense of humor and nurturing spirit. Joan will be missed by all of us who were lucky enough to have been loved by her. Her family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers and staff of Gateway Springs. Your compassion and care during this season of life has been an incredible blessing. We could never thank each of you enough for the love and kindness shared with us. Visitation in her honor will be Thursday, July 25th from 5:00pm-7:00pm at Mihovk-Rosenacker Funeral Home, 5527 Cheviot Rd. (45247). Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Friday, July 26th at 10:30am at St. Ignatius Loyola Church, 5222 N Bend Rd. (45247). Interment will take place immediately following at Arlington Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cincinnati SPCA by following this link.
