Joan June Ponting

November 13, 1934 – February 5, 2023

Joan June Ponting

Mrs. Joan June Ponting, age 88, passed away on February 5, 2023.

Joan was born in Cincinnati, OH on November 13, 1934 to Albert and Alma Jenkins. Joan eloped with her  high school sweetheart Leslie Allen Davis (Laddie), while studying nursing at Deaconess.  Joan lost Leslie to cancer in 1963, leaving behind three young children.  Joan met Joseph Leonard Ponting, from Elida, Ohio through her best friend, Dorothy Witte. Joan and Joe married and added five more children to their family.

Joan is survived by her children; Gregory (Gail) Davis, Rick (Cheryl) Davis, Sheri (Thomas) Renneker,   Kristi (Lee) Walke, Tony (Nicole) Ponting, Kurt Ponting, and Shannan (Andrew) Plogsted. She also leaves behind her siblings, Carol (Jack) Chard, Bonnie Ireland, and Albert (Sandy) Jenkins along with 23 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and a host of other nieces and nephews, and  other family  and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, and daughter, Kelly Ponting.

Joan graduated from Mount Healthy High School. She then went on to pursue a nursing degree from the Deaconess School of Nursing.  Joan was devoted to her family. She was involved in her childrens’ activities and sports. She was active in the PTA and became a lifetime member of Monfort Heights Elementary School PTA. She was a devoted den leader with her two younger sons in the Boy Scouts of America, who went on to become Eagle Scouts.  She loved family gatherings where she could cook for everyone and cherished her conversations with family, catching up on all her children and grandchildren.  She was an avid gardener, loved flowers and always had fresh vegetables.  She enjoyed her Wednesday lunch dates with her mother, aunts, and sisters and was always up for a road trip.  Joan was an avid reader and would spend many afternoons on her porch reading scriptures, her devotions and a variety of books. She especially enjoyed a glass of wine on her porch on Friday night visiting with family and friends.   Joan was a devout Christian and was a  lifelong member of Monfort Heights United Methodist Church.
