Joan Rinckel Wilson

**Obituary for Joan Carol Wilson**

Joan Rinckel Wilson, 87, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2025. Born on December 25, 1937, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Joan dedicated her life to nurturing young minds as a beloved elementary school teacher, inspiring countless 3rd graders throughout her career.

Joan’s passion for education extended beyond the classroom; she also enjoyed a fulfilling part-time role at McAlpins and Dillards, selling children’s shoes, where her warm demeanor resonated with every customer. Her love for travel brought her joy as she and her late husband, James W. Wilson Jr., created lasting memories while cruising to new destinations. Together, they shared a profound appreciation for the arts, frequently attending Cincinnati Pops concerts and volunteering behind the scenes at The Cincinnati Musical Theater, helping to bring the magic of performance to life for others.

An active member of her community, Joan volunteered at the Llanfair Retirement Community, offering companionship and support to residents. She also held a special place in her heart for the Marvin Chapter #376 Order of the Eastern Star, where her kindness and service shone brightly.

Joan leaves behind a loving family, including her sister-in-law, Jane Wilson Lukker (Han Lukker), and her devoted nieces, Karin Lukker Rising (Eric Rising), Tracey Lukker, and Julie Lukker Fortson (Drew Fortson). Her family also includes a great nephew, Evan Rising, great nieces, Sarah Rising and Hope Fortson, as well as cherished cousins, Homer Rinckel and Lois Alexander.

Joan was preceded in death by her husband, James Wilson Jr., and parents, John and Hilda Rinckel.

“Prayers & sympathy to the Wilson family from our Marvin Chapter # 376, Order of the Eastern Star (M. Callahan, Secretary). We will miss our Past Matron, Joan, & her many years of service to our Masonic family.”

“Joan was my mother’s first cousin, and also my Godmother. She had a fun “auntie” sense of humor, and we used to spend every Christmas Eve with her and Jim. It was “tradition” in our family-they threw fun family get-togethers. We would sing “Happy Birthday” to her at midnight then-to celebrate her Christmas Day birthday. My great aunt and uncle (her parents) hosted the family Christmas Eve celebration in the years before she and Jim did, when my siblings and I were children. I really used to enjoy hearing the tales of herself and my mom when they were teenagers. My children enjoyed the time at her home at Christmas time as well. Love you so much, Joan. Rest peacefully, and hug my Mom and Dad when you get up there.”
