Obituary via Frederick Funeral Home

John R. Mercer Sr., beloved husband of Judy Mercer. Devoted father of Cindy (Vic) Rizzo, Cathy Nicodemus (Greg Barnes), and John Jr (Mary) Mercer.  Loving stepfather of Molly Cordill (Chuck Breidenbach), Kari Miller (Tim Koehler), and Michael (Rochelle) Miller.  Loving grandfather of Ryan (Karen) Whitaker, Sarah (Greg) Vitolo, Kristin Rizzo (Kevin Burke), Jacob (Alaina) Mercer, Benjamin Mercer, Bailey Cordill, Luke Cordill, Kensie Miller and Ryden Miller.  Loving great-grandfather of Ella, Emily, Jack, Parker, Eira, Ava, and Peyton. Dear brother of the late Robert (Betty Jo) Mercer. John passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2020 at the age 79. John graduated from Elder High School and worked at Ford Motor Company/UAW for 44 years. He was an avid golfer, fisherman, and boater and enjoyed splitting his time between Cincinnati, Norris Lake, TN, and Venice, Florida. He loved being out with family and friends, especially at Tyme Out Sports Bar in Cincinnati and the Englewood Moose Lodge in Florida where he enjoyed his staple Windsor and diet. John had a zest for life and was always on the move, renowned for his ability to successfully navigate anywhere without the aid of maps or technology in his beloved F150 pickup truck(s) with cigar in mouth and ever-present ball cap. He was typically the first to let you know what he was thinking and the last to hold back his opinion. His family and many, many friends will always cherish the laughs and good times had with John.A private memorial gathering will take place at Frederick Funeral Home, 2553 Banning Rd. on Wednesday, October 28. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cincinnati Children’s Charity Care Fund, , P.O. Box 5202 Cincinnati, OH  45201-5202, www.cincinnatichildrens.org/donate .
