John Wesley Wright

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. John Wesley Wright, a cherished husband, father, son, and a beloved member of the Cincinnati community. John departed this life on May 6, 2026, at the age of 82, surrounded by the love of his family and friends.

Born on March 17, 1944, in Cincinnati, Ohio, John was a distinguished veteran of the United States Air Force, where he exemplified courage and dedication. His journey led him to answer a higher calling as a clergy member, serving as the Assistant Minister at Allen Temple AME Church in Cincinnati, Ohio, and ministering at Bethel AME Church in Lebanon, Ohio. John’s passion for preaching and sharing the gospel inspired many, echoing the legacy of his father, who served as a minister at Allen Temple in the late 1940s.

John was a man of many talents and interests. He loved music deeply, his expressive saxophone and piano playing brought joy to countless gatherings. He shared the stage with renowned artists such as Marvin Gaye and the Ohio Players, his musical talent bringing people together in harmony. He possessed a particular fondness for jazz, classical, R & B, and gospel, with one of his favorite hymns being “When We All Get to Heaven.”

A kind and gentle soul, John embraced each day with compassion and warmth, making him a cherished friend to many. He was instrumental in establishing Arlington’s summer concert series, where his love for music flourished. An avid traveler and a devoted family man, he found immense joy in spending time with his children, Anthony and Rebecca, and his grandchildren: Solomon, Benayah, Shelah, Shemiyah, Keon, and Crew, along with several great-grandchildren, a niece, nephews and cousins. John’s heart also held a special place for his Japanese Chin, Milo, with whom he shared many joyous moments.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace McArthur Wright, Sr. and Harriet Busby Wright Graham, and his brother Wallace M. Wright, Jr. He is survived by his loving wife of three years, Georgia Mae Wright (Gigi).

John’s love for life extended to his fondness for movies, particularly action films, reflecting his adventurous spirit. His legacy will forever resonate in the community he served so lovingly, and he will be remembered as a gentle man whose kindness left an indelible mark on all who knew him.

Funeral services to honor John Wesley Wright will be held on Friday May 22, 2026, at Allen Temple AME Church, located at 7080 Reading Road, 45237. A time for visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by a celebratory service at 11:00 AM. Live services can be seen at YouTube Allen Temple Church Cincinnati.

Following the service, everyone is invited to the repast for fellowship and sharing.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Allen Temple AME Church to continue supporting the community that John loved so dearly.
