A DEATH
HAS OCCURRED
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joseph William Burke at home on February 4, 2026, at the age of 79. Joe was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He courageously lived with a rare blood cancer for 23 years and his final wish was to donate his body to the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine to further research.
Joe was fortunate to have had three fulfilling careers, working at Cincinnati Bell, AT&T and Great Oaks. He loved being outside, exploring nature, working on house projects and connecting with others through his ham radio hobby.
Joe is survived by his loving wife, Karen, with whom he shared 54 wonderful years of marriage. He is also survived by his children, Amy Burke, Becky (Brandon) Biddle, Jessica (John) Rothgeb, and Michelle Burke and grandchildren, Carolyn Biddle, Emma Biddle, Josie Mays, Nick Biddle, Ellie Mays, Molly Biddle, John Rothgeb, and Aubrey Rothgeb.
Joe will be celebrated on Thursday, February 12, 2026 with a visitation at 10 a.m. and a Catholic mass at 11 a.m. at Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church, 2014 Springdale Road, Cincinnati, OH 45231. (Please note the original location was changed to Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church)
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the International Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinemia Foundation (IWMF.com) or to the American Cancer Society.

“I worked with Joe at AT&T. He was one of the finest people I have met in my life. It is a privilege to call him a good friend. May God comfort his family at this difficult time. I knew him enough to know he is with God now.”

“Joe and I became friends working on his plan for a curtain antenna exhibit for the Voice of America Museum. That friendship continued for many years pursuing his dream of building an Earth-Moon-Earth (EME) radio station. I admired Joe’s radio knowledge and his drive to constantly experiment and improve the EME station performance as well as his positive outlook despite his illness. I wish that we could have completed his latest EME dish project. I miss him so much! Richard WC8RK”

“I am saddened to hear of Joe’s passing. I met him years ago through our shared amateur radio hobby and our shared interest in the more challenging and esoteric aspects thereof. Joe provided encouragement and material support to a group of us who will continue onward with the hobby and in particular the aspects that he enjoyed as well. RIP my friend and 73, Jim N8ECI”
