Kathi was born to Johann and Karolina Gruen on August 3, 1932. She left this life on earth on December 19, 2022.
Kathi grew up on the family farm near current day Dnipro in Ukraine. She remembered growing up on the farm with great fondness. During World War II the family was relocated several times and finally settled in Germany. Kathi came to the United States in the early 1950s with husband Karl Schock with whom she had four children. Kathi worked as a seamstress until she became a full-time homemaker. After Karl’s death, Kathi married William Maxwell with whom she spent many happy years. Kathi was preceded in death by her two husbands and son George Schock. She is survived by her remaining children Herbert (Lisa) Schock, John (Kay) Schock, Sonya (Greg) Garner, her grandchildren – Betsy (Justin) Frazee, Alex (Katrina) Schock, Karl Schock, Adam Schock, Jenny Schock, Emma Garner, Jacob Garner and George’s partner Karen Houston. She has five great grandchildren. Kathi is also survived by her sister Elvira Taylor and her family. Kathi loved to play cards, particularly Uno and Old Maid with her young grandchildren. She also enjoyed going on long car rides, crocheting, listening to German music on the radio and to her Engelbert Humperdinck and Tom Jones CDs and visiting with neighbors. She was also a fan of the Cincinnati Reds. The last few months of Kathi’s life were spent at Artis Senior Living in Bridgetown. The family thanks the staff at Artis for welcoming Kathi and her family and the high-quality care they provided. Kathi was loved by her family and will be greatly missed. Memorials in Kathi’s name can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Hospice of Cincinnati.
