A DEATH
HAS OCCURRED
In Loving Memory of Laura Belle Wallace:
The world mourns the passing of Laura Belle Wallace, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who peacefully departed this life on June 29, 2024, in Rockcastle County, Kentucky. Laura was born on February 18, 1924, in Mt. Vernon, KY on Mullins Station Road. Laura and her mother lived with her grandparents, George and Belle Mullins. After moving with her mother to Cincinnati at the age of 12, she eventually married Clyde Wallace and dedicated 45 years of her life to Arnold Printing Company as a bindery worker. A hardworking and generous individual, Laura enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren, watching them thrive and succeed.
Throughout her years, Laura loved flowers, trying new foods, drinking a glass of White Zinfandel, relaxing with a Whiskey Sour, and eating fresh pastries and cake. Her adventurous spirit took her on unforgettable journeys to Europe and Africa, where she reveled in new experiences and cultures. Laura’s passion for dancing, especially polka dancing, brought smiles to those around her and created lasting memories.
Despite her humble beginnings, Laura flourished throughout her life, working diligently to ensure her son and grandchildren had opportunities for higher education. Generosity defined her character, always ensuring her grandchildren had everything they needed. She imparted valuable life lessons, like the importance of learning to drive in the Arlington Memorial Gardens. Throughout her granddaughter’s lives, she insisted that they promise to make sure her eyebrows and makeup were perfect for her funeral services.
Laura’s time in the sun, keeping busy, and her newfound love for cats at 95 years old highlighted her lifelong resiliency and dedication to a life well lived. Moving back to Mt. Vernon, KY, in 2012, Laura embraced community and companionship through Silver Sneakers and exercise. She loved keeping old headstones clean and celebrating the annual Mullins Family Reunion each Memorial Day. Her cherished 100th birthday celebration earlier this year brought together friends and family to honor a century of paving the way for future generations of women.
Her legacy lives on through her son, Carl Jerry Wallace, daughter-in-law, Mollie Wallace, grandchildren, Bethany (Jeff) Brickley, Carrie (Peter) White, and Laura Rowe, great-grandchildren, Sam Brickley, Adam White, Caroline Brickley, Gwynneth Rowe, Liam White, and Seren Rowe, and all who had the privilege of knowing her kindness and grace. A keeper of cherished family traditions, Laura’s well-wrapped gifts and Hallmark cards remain a testament to her sentimentality and thoughtfulness.
Laura was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Wallace, her mother, Effie Henry, and grandparents, George and Belle Mullins.
