A DEATH
HAS OCCURRED
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Lawrence “Larry” Edward Himburg. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio on August 27, 1932, Larry departed this life quickly and peacefully on May 27, 2025, just shy of his 93rd birthday. Larry was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Katherine Himburg as well as his stepson Richard Richmond.
Larry was devoted to his loving wife, Gloria Himburg, with whom he shared a remarkable 51 years of marriage. Together, they raised a family that includes stepdaughter Debbie Larson, stepson Robert (Colleen) Richmond, 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren; each of whom will carry his legacy forward.
Larry was a proud veteran, having served in the Army Rangers as a paratrooper, specifically as a member of the 11th Airborne Division during the Korean War. Larry embodied honor and commitment not only in his military service but throughout his long career as a construction worker and welder, where he worked diligently for the Cincinnati Children’s Home until his retirement. Larry lived a life characterized by dedication, service, and love.
A man of varied interests and passions, Larry held leadership roles as a past president of the Mt. Healthy Eagles # 2193. Larry was also member of the El Greeks, Southern Ohio Dog & Game Association, Mt. Healthy American Legion, VFW and a proud member of the 32° Masons and Scottish Rites. As an Endowment Member of the NRA, Larry devoted 39 years as a firearms instructor, imparting his skills and love for the sport to countless individuals. Larry’s warmth, wisdom, humor and sense of adventure touched the lives of everyone he met. All who knew Larry knew that he loved a good joke, practical or otherwise.
Larry didn’t believe that a person’s age should limit their adventures. Larry decided he wanted to jump out of a perfectly good airplane on his 90th birthday, even though he hadn’t done so since the Korean War. So, he did. He liked it so much he did it again, just 9 months ago on his 92nd birthday. Larry will be greatly missed by family, friends, and all the lives he influenced.
A meaningful celebration to honor Larry’s remarkable life and legacy will be held at Arlington Memorial Gardens, in Mt. Healthy, on June 11, 2025. Visitation will be at Arlington’s Funeral Home from 1-2pm with Services and Military Honors immediately following. As we gather to remember Larry, let us hold onto the memories of love and laughter he so generously gifted to us. May Larry rest in peace.
