Obituary via Neidhard Young Funeral Home

Linda Ann Cross (nee Shad), age 58 years, passed away peacefully at her home with her family by her side on Wednesday, April 12, 2023. Beloved wife of James M. Cross. Dear mother of John (Angela) Day, Brittany (Todd) Humphrey, Samuel  (Alyssa Pierce) Cross, the late Eric Day and step-mother of Matthew and  Cassandra Cross. Loving grandmother of Emma, Connor and Hailey Humphrey. Devoted daughter of Alan and Lavena Foley Shad. Dear sister of Bob (Linda) Shad, Mark (Bridget) Shad, Ken (Cyndie) Shad and Karen (Spencer) Johnson. Step-grandmother of Madden, Azalynn, Jordan, Christopher and Elizabeth.

Linda was born and raised in Colerain Township.  She grew up on Stonemill Road with her parents (Alan and Lavena), 3 brothers and sister (Bob, Mark, Ken and Karen).  She loved her childhood and spent many of her days outside with her siblings and cousins that lived next door.

Linda went to St. John’s Catholic School from Kindergarten through 8th grade.  She went to Northwest High School, graduating in 1983.  She spent 2 of those years obtaining her cosmetology license.  Linda went on to be a hairstylist for several years and still cut hair for some of her family members throughout her life.  That was one of the many ways she served others in her life.

In young adulthood, Linda spent a few years in Germany with her first husband.  She was there from 1986-1989 where she had her first two children; John Alan Day, born in 1987 and Brittany Lynn Humphrey (Day), born in 1988.  In 1989 they moved back to Colerain Twp and lived there for several years.  In 1993 Linda had her third child Eric Anthony Day.  Eric was born with health complications and unfortunately passed away in 1995.  Linda was incredibly strong through this time and was a rock for her family.

Linda moved to Harrison, OH in 1997 into a home she loved and lived there for the rest of her life.  Linda married her second husband, James (Jim) Cross on September 14th, 2001 in Gatlinburg, Tenn.  They enjoyed their annual trips to Gatlinburg together to celebrate their anniversary.  Linda and Jim spent 23 wonderful years together before her passing.  They had their son, Samuel Wade Cross in 2002.

Linda began working for the United States Postal Service in 2000 as a clerk.  6 years later she was promoted to Postmaster.  She served as a Postmaster at several post offices in the Greater Cincinnati/Southeast Indiana/Northern Kentucky area.  Linda was always a hard worker, going above and beyond in all that she did.

She had several hobbies that she enjoyed when she wasn’t working so hard.  In her younger years, she enjoyed bowling.  She always loved working in her home, garden and doing crafts. She took pride in making and having a nice home.  She was never hesitant to roll up her sleeves and get to work.

Linda enjoyed vacations with family and frequently visited Bradenton and Anna Maria Island to visit her parents and enjoy the beach. She was able to enjoy a trip to the Grand Canyon in 2022, which she had always wanted to do. She also had always wanted to stay at the Gaylord Opryland Resort in Nashville, TN. which she was fortunate to do in March 2023.

Linda was a grandmother to Emma, Connor and Hailey Humphrey.  She loved spending time with them and they adored her.  They all loved birthday and holiday celebrations, crafting, baking/decorating and taking trips together.

Linda was known as a kind, giving, incredibly strong woman to many people.  She was hardworking and always went out of her way to help others.  Linda was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and sister.  She was the glue that held the family together and she will be greatly missed.   Visitation will be held at Neidhard Young Funeral Home, 7401 Hamilton Avenue, Mt. Healthy on Tuesday April 18 from 5-8 PM. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday April 19 at 11 AM. Memorials may be directed to Lung Cancer Research Foundation at http://participate.lcrf.org/goto/lindacross
