Mabel D. Underwood

february 28, 1924 – february 8, 2024

Mabel D. Underwood

Mabel D. Underwood, a beloved member of the Fairfield, Ohio community, passed away on February 8, 2024, at the age of 99. She was born on February 28, 1924, in Cincinnati, Ohio.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Mabel led a fulfilling life. She had a talent for sewing and embroidery.  In her spare time, Mabel found solace in the pages of books.  She was an avid reader. Mabel was a wonderful cook.  Her specialties include, a type of fudge that none of her family could duplicate.  She was also famous in her family for her apple fritters that were served for dinner and eaten as fast as she could fry them.  Mabel loved thuringer sandwiches.  Mabel’s unique taste in beverages led her to enjoy a refreshing beer with a sprinkle of salt, adding a distinct flavor that only she could appreciate.

Mabel’s devotion to family was a cornerstone of her life. She raised four loving daughters, Elaine Duecker, Julia (Robert) Wallace, Patricia White and Amy Serwinowski. She was fiercely devoted to her family. Mabel’s love expanded to her grandchildren, John (Ashlee) Duecker, Joseph (Erin) Dillon, Jordan (Kelly) Dillon, Jay Dillon, Matthew Serwinowski, Nicole Serwinowski, and Christian Serwinowski, who will forever carry her spirit within them.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leroy and Clara Jordan, her husband, Bill and her daughter, Patricia White and grandson, Randy White.

Her 60-plus years of marriage to her late husband, Bill, were a testament to their deep bond and unwavering commitment to one another. They met at the Busy Bee in Clifton, Ohio, and embarked on countless adventures together, traveling in a variety of motor homes they owned over the years. Hilton Head, South Carolina, held a special place in their hearts, and they relished the tranquility of that treasured vacation spot.

Throughout her life, Mabel found joy in movement and dance. She ran track and enjoyed gymnastics and dance in her youth and into her teenage years.  Dancing at Moonlight Gardens held a special place in her memories. These experiences shaped her vibrant spirit and contributed to her youthful energy. Mabel’s zest for life was evident in every step she took.

We invite you to join us in celebrating Mabel’s remarkable life. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 16, 2024, at the Arlington Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 2155 Compton Road, 45231 (follow the blue line to the left upon entering the memorial park).
