Melvin Charles William McKinney Jr. Of Okeana, Ohio, was born on August 10, 1939, and was called to the Lord on May 10, 2024.
Only son of his parents, both preceding him in death, Vida Ruth (nee Thomas)- and Melvin Charles William McKinney Sr.
Corporal in the United States Marine Corps.
He married in 1961 to the love of his life and wife of nearly 60 years to the late Judith Ann (nee McAfee). They had two daughters: Jennifer Lynn (Mark) Jeffery and Teresa (Chris McPhillips) Kennedy. Mel loved his Grandchildren: Erin (Tim) Rathman, Joshua (Aeryn) Jeffery, Caroline (Justin) Payne, Sean Kennedy, Jacob Kennedy, Sarah (Matt) Smith, and Caitlyn Kennedy. His pride and joy were his Great-Grandchildren: Hailey, Hannah, Hunter, Edward, Aiden, Ava, Leah, Liam, Logan, and Sadie. He was excited for his 11th great-grandbaby girl, Smith, due this summer.
Mel was an excellent craftsman and woodworker who made many beautiful pieces of furniture and rocking horses. He was a member of the Cincinnati Woodworking Club for many years.
He worked for IBM for 30 years as a Senior Repair Technician and served his United Methodist Church as a Deacon. In retirement, Mel and Judy traveled the world. They loved cruises, and their trip to Rome was his favorite. He will be missed by many.
A Celebration of Life Memorial is to be held at the private residence of his daughter, Jennifer Jeffery, located at 10490 Howard Rd., Harrison, OH 45030, on June 1, 2024, from 1 to 4 p.m. ET-parking at 10524 Lees Creek Rd.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mel’s honor to Hospice of Cincinnati, or the Elizabeth Dole Foundation.
