Michael David Zegeer

September 17, 1953 – July 7, 2026

Michael David Zegeer

Michael David Zegeer, 72, of Cincinnati, died July 7, 2026, at Cincinnati’s Christ Hospital, of renal failure. Zegeer retired from Cincinnati Public Schools as a tutor/small group instructor. He previously was an educator for the Alcoholism Council of the Cincinnati Area and held various jobs assisting youth at the St. Joseph Orphanage of Cincinnati.

Zegeer’s zeal for home entertaining united his love for friends, music and cooking. His backyard was a frequent venue for grilling and gardening, but more importantly, home to The Shed, which friends credit as a refuge from the world. He loved humor, history and travel; enjoying the latter extensively with his wife, Marsha Hrabak Zegeer, before her death in 2024.

He graduated from the Caribbean School in Ponce, Puerto Rico, before earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees in sociology from Marshall University. Zegeer attended Cincinnati’s Rooted Community Church.

Zegeer is survived by a sister, Jill Zegeer (Patrick) Dunn of Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Bruce Zegeer, and his parents, Arthur William and Billie Jane Zegeer, all of West Virginia.

The love and support of Zegeer’s friends greatly eased his last months. Special thanks to Robert Sonnega, Tom Ridel and Eric Smith, as well as Mark Gruber, Becky Stepto and Terry Webb, all of Ohio.

A memorial service will take place in Cincinnati at a later date.
