August 13, 1958 – September 29, 2023

Raymond S. Claytor, Jr.

In Loving Memory of Raymond S. Claytor Jr.

It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the loss of Raymond S. Claytor Jr., a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. Raymond passed away on September 29, 2023, at the age of 65, surrounded by his loving family.

Raymond was born on August 13, 1958, in Bluefield, West Virginia, to his proud parents, Raymond Claytor and Gloria (nee Dickerson) Claytor. From an early age, it was clear that Raymond possessed talent as an artist, a keen intellect and a voracious appetite for knowledge. He graduated from Penn Hills High School and went on to pursue his higher education at the prestigious Carnegie Mellon Institute of Technology and the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. On graduation day, Raymond was hired by Gibson Greeting Cards of Cincinnati Ohio and worked there for 19 years as a Graphic Artist and Illustrator. Raymond remained an independent artist throughout his life.

Raymond married his high school sweetheart Pamela Wallace on June 28, 1980. From this union came two Son’s Raymond Winslow and Jordan Marcellus.

Throughout his life, Raymond embraced various passions and hobbies. He had a distinct fashion sense, often seen sporting his trademark plaid shirts, and had a love for his grandmother’s famous biscuits, which he delighted in sharing with loved ones. Raymond had a deep affection for animals, specifically English Bulldogs, and was known for his expertise in dog breeding. He was also an avid art collector, calligrapher, photographer, and skilled pool player. He was also an avid Pittsburgh Steelers Fan and loved John Denver’s music.

Raymond was a man of faith who found solace and guidance at St. James of the Valley Catholic Church. He was an active member of the congregation and drew strength from his spiritual community. His unwavering belief in God and his commitment to living a virtuous life served as an inspiration to those around him.

Raymond’s love and devotion extended beyond himself. He leaves behind a grieving family, including his beloved wife, Pamela Claytor, and his son, Raymond Claytor. He is also survived by his father, Raymond Claytor, his mother, Gloria Claytor, his sisters, Anita Claytor and Pamela J. Claytor, grandchildren, Averie Claytor, Jordynn Claytor, Peyton Ethridge, Kayleigh Ethridge, Ashlynn Ethridge, Jaden Ethridge, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends, who will greatly miss his presence in their lives.

Raymond was preceded in death by his son, Jordan M. Claytor.

A funeral service will be held to honor Raymond’s memory on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, with visitation from 11:00 AM until the services begin at 12:00 PM, at the Arlington Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, located at 2155 Compton Road Cincinnati, Ohio 45231. Once on the grounds of the memorial park, follow the BLUE line to the funeral home. Raymond will be entombed at Arlington Memorial Gardens.

Raymond S. Claytor Jr. touched the lives of many with his unwavering love, compassion, and wisdom. He will be remembered for his sharp mind, genuine kindness, and his ability to bring joy to those around him. As we bid farewell to our dear Raymond, let us find solace in the beautiful memories he bestowed upon us, and may his soul find eternal rest.
