A DEATH
HAS OCCURRED
Roger David Balsly, age 72, departed this life on December 19, 2025.
Roger was born the fourth of four sons to the late Donald Lawrence and Frances Kerce Balsly in Madeira, Ohio, where he attended the Madeira School System from kindergarten through high school. An accomplished athlete, Roger participated in track, wrestling, and football, and also spent a season in theater. His high school athletic achievements earned him All-City and All-State honors, culminating in his well-deserved induction into the Madeira Sports Hall of Fame in 2020.
Following high school graduation in 1972, Roger, being awarded one of three Divisional 1 athletic scholarships, attended the University of Cincinnati, where he played football for two years before taking a hiatus from college. His life took a pivotal turn through his involvement in a ministry led by Coach Denny Duron, which resulted in a football scholarship to Evangel College in the spring of 1978, where he played one season.
Roger went on to complete his undergraduate education, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in 1982 from what was then known as Southwest Missouri State University. While attending a business law class in 1979, he met the love of his life, Marsha Brayton. They were married on November 26, 1983, at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Springfield, Missouri. The couple began their life together in Springfield, where Roger launched a successful career in sales. His professional journey took the family to Cincinnati, Rio Rancho, New Mexico, and ultimately back to Cincinnati, where he retired from a successful career in aeroparts sales and service.
Throughout his life, Roger was deeply passionate about coaching and mentoring his son, cheering on UC and Bengals football, traveling across the United States, enjoying a wide range of music, cooking, and being a devoted dog owner. Above all, Roger lived his faith quietly and consistently, cherishing life at home with his wife and valuing his close-knit circle of friends and extended community.
Roger will be deeply and profoundly missed.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Marsha, and his son, Bryce. He is also survived by his three brothers, Jerry, Dennis, and Michael Balsly, along with their spouses, children, and extended families.
A private graveside memorial service will be held, with details to be shared at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
