Thomas Edward Hoppenjans

It is with a heavy yet celebratory heart that we announce the passing of Thomas Edward Hoppenjans, 80, of Cincinnati, OH. A beloved husband, brother, and friend, Tom left this world peacefully on October 29, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and an insatiable appetite for life.

Born on May 21, 1945, in Covington, KY, Tom grew up with a joy for adventure that followed him throughout his life. A proud United States Army veteran, he served as a Military Officer in Germany during the Vietnam War, exemplifying dedication, and commitment.

Tom enjoyed a fulfilling career in cosmetic production at Kao, where he brought creativity and skill to the assembly line. His passion did not end there—he was an enthusiastic fan of Cincinnati sports, always working for the Bengals, Reds, FC Cincinnati, and Cyclone Hockey. You could also often find him working at local concerts.

Family was everything to Tom. He loved spending holidays surrounded by loved ones, sharing delicious meals that often featured his favorite Skyline Chili and KFC. An aficionado of food in general, he was known for his sweet tooth, especially when it came to chocolate chip cookies. His warm spirit and willingness to help neighbors made him a cherished member of his community.

Tom’s festive spirit shone during the Christmas season—he took great joy in decorating with lights and spreading cheer to all around him.

Tom is survived by his wife, Francine Hoppenjans; sister-in-law, Denise (John) Couch; sister-in-law, Sandra Blank and brother-in-law, Fred Kidwell. He will be missed dearly by his extended family and countless friends.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents; Edward and Helen Hoppenjans (nee Blick); his sister Barbara Massman; his sister-in-law, Linda Kidwell and his brother-in-law, Richard Blank.

Services will be held at Arlington Memorial Gardens Lakeside Chapel, 2145 Compton Road, 45231 (follow the red line upon entering the memorial park) on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at 10:00 AM, where family and friends are invited to come together to remember Tom’s life with stories, laughter, and love.

As we say goodbye to Tom, let us celebrate the joy he brought into our lives and the many memories we hold dear. In his honor, let’s indulge in life’s simple pleasures, just as he did—may we all find a moment to enjoy a chocolate chip cookie and cheer for our favorite team.

In lieu of flowers, family has requested donations be made in memory of Tom’s life to Hospice of Blue Ash, 4310 Cooper Road, Cincinnati, OH 45242 or at https://hospiceofcincinnati.org/donate/.

Thank you, Tom, for the love and joy you shared. You will forever remain in our hearts.

“As one of Tom’s neighbors one thing you could always count on was seeing Tom outside. In the summer he was riding his lawn cutting his grass or the grass of one of his neighbors. In the winter he would attach a plow to that same mower and clear everyone sidewalks. When we first moved into the neighborhood in 1985 we called him Mr Water. That was before we knew his real name, he had automatic sprinklers that kept his yard looking great. He had the best looking yard on the street right up to the end. His yearly Christmas display was always top notch. We miss seeing him working in his yard and passing him driving up the street. He always had a smile and a wave. Rest in Peace Tom”

“Tom had been our Reds usher for years, we have had the privilege of sharing many memories and snacks with him for years. We will miss him, opening day will not be the same without him.”

“Tom was my best friend at Lloyd High School and the best man in my wedding in November 1968. I will miss him and cherish all our great memories over the last 62 years. Tom was voted best personality in our 1964 graduating class and never lost the ability to make you smile! Mike Devereaux”

“Good bye ole friend but never forgotten. Our times working together and just hanging out was very special. You loved your family and my family loved you. As we had talked, Big Jim is there with you and I can see it now. Miss you buddy.”
