Tommie L. Slaughter (Osborn/Rogers) was born to Jessie Whitehead and Tom Osborn on April 2, 1929 in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Tommie attended The Common Schools of Cincinnati (Cincinnati Public Schools). Tommie was the oldest of Jessie and Tom’s five daughters. Tommie spent many years growing up in the West End and she also attended Jerriel Baptist Church.
Tommie was a tomboy and loved to be around her father. She loved to play basketball as a youth and also loved to attend parties and social gatherings with her friends.
Tommie met her first husband (Kenneth Rogers -deceased) and father of her four children (Marilyn -deceased, Aaron, Darlene and Yolawnda) in the 1950’s. Many years later, Tommie married Clifford Slaughter and was blessed with a wonderful bonus family of three children (Willie, Clifford and Barbara Jean – deceased).
Tommie was one of the first Black women to graduate from Bethesda Nursing School in the 1950’s. She worked at Jewish Hospital for over 20 years.
Tommie enjoyed playing cards, bowling, playing Uno and Pokeno, reading books, going to the thrift stores, eating at Frisch’s and Perkins, watching the Wheel of Fortune, her favorite evening snacks (popcorn and apples), cooking, feeding people and spending time with her family.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are: her only sister Eloise Osborn; her three remaining children and two remaining bonus children; daughter and sons-in-law, Diane Luckie, James Muhammad and Jamey Ballard; and a host of family and friends which include eight grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grand-children.
