William D. Rahn

Neidhard Young Funeral Home is Assisting the Family

Obituary via Neidhard Young Funeral Home

Mr. William (Bill) D. Rahn went home to be with his Lord, surrounded by his family, after 85 blessed years.  Bill was born June 11, 1938, in Cincinnati, OH to William and Mildred, who he meets in heaven. Bill met the love of his life, Arlene (nee Henkel) in 1958, and they were married on February 2, 1963.  They settled in Okeana and have lived there 43 years. He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years and son Bill (Susan), grandsons Alex and Vince, sister Janice, brother-in-law Otto Henkel and many nieces and nephews.

Bill was passionate about his family, especially his grandsons. He enjoyed camping trips with them, spending time fishing and hours around a campfire. He taught them how to drive different motorized vehicles at a very young age.  He was a true mentor to the younger generation, not only his grandsons, but nieces, nephews, and the neighborhood children. He was also quite the jokester and always ready to tease. He thrived on people’s laughter!

A member of the Homebuilders class for 48 years, he was dedicated to his church where he had many dear friends.  Bill loved music and sang in the church choir for years.  He was known to break into song at any moment.

A loyal patriot his entire life, he served in the U.S. Naval Reserves.  He was a proud member of Butler County Citizens On Patrol (C.O.P.) and his wife partnered with him.  In 1996 at the Butler County Sheriff’s Office, he was presented a Citizens Accommodation for bravery for the apprehension of suspected robbers at a local carryout.

Bill spent hours behind the wheel of a Jeep and was a founding member of the IOK Four Wheelers.  He was also a member of the Fairfield Sportsmen’s Association for 35 years. An accomplished trapshooter, he won several state competitions in FL, TN, and OH.
