William Herbert Nordyke

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of William Herbert Nordyke, a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who left us on January 12, 2026 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on April 1, 1948, Bill was a devoted presence in the lives of those who knew him, embodying a spirit of kindness and compassion throughout his remarkable journey.

Bill graduated from Aiken High School in 1966, where he proudly became the first class to complete all four years. As the sports editor of the school newspaper, he showcased his early passion for storytelling and communication. He pursued further education at Ohio University, majoring in Journalism, before answering the call of duty when he was drafted into the United States Army. Bill served honorably during the Vietnam War, completing two tours that shaped his character and reaffirmed his commitment to serving others.

After his military service, Bill found his true calling as a Registered Nurse. He graduated from The Christ Hospital School of Nursing in 1979. Bill specialized in behavioral health where he helped people through the most difficult times in their lives. Throughout his career in healthcare, he devoted himself to caring for others, making a profound impact on countless lives, not only in body but in mind and spirit. Friends and family often remarked on his nurturing nature and the warmth he extended to everyone he encountered.

A lifelong resident of Cincinnati and the surrounding areas, Bill enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. His evenings were often spent watching the Boston Celtics, savoring his beloved Rock and Roll music, and sharing his vast knowledge of classic movies made before the 1950s. He found joy in moments of leisure, whether smoking his pipe or cigar while sipping on a fine scotch or relaxing at the beach in the warm sun. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family, imparting his passions and hobbies to his sons, Brian and Taylor, and forming lasting memories with his grandchildren, Eleanor and Evelyn. Bill also developed a special bond with his dog, Chance.

Bill is survived by his devoted wife of 41 years, Beth Pierce; sons Brian (Joyce) Nordyke and Taylor Nordyke; sister Carole Murphey; and his cherished grandchildren, Eleanor and Evelyn. His presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William and Myrtle Nordyke, and sister, Judith Toerge.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, January 30th, 2026 at 11:30am at the Arlington Memorial Gardens, 2145 Compton Road, Cincinnati, OH 45231. Family and friends will meet at the family gathering area at 11:15am and process to the community center where the committal will be held indoors due to weather.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Bill’s honor to the Michael J. Fox Foundation by visiting https://www.michaeljfox.org/.

As we say goodbye, we remember Bill Nordyke not just for his achievements but for the love, laughter, and kindness he so freely shared. His legacy will forever inspire us to lead lives of compassion and service.

“Nurse William Nordyke, we recognize you and pay homage to your dedication to the profession of nursing. Your life as a nurse is not remembered by your years as a nurse, but rather by the difference you made by stepping into people’s lives…by special moments. We extend our deepest sympathies to your family. The Cincinnati Nurses Honor Guard”

“I had the pleasure knowing Bill. He wasnt just my friend he became family. We spent many moments together listening to his favorite tunes, Bill teaching me all about music. Much of our time was, organizing his records and cds. When we weren’t doing that, we would spend our days outside, listening to music while he smoked his pipe and I read my books. On our lazy days you would find us eating snacks and watching Perry Mason. We shared many heart-to-heart talks, and he helped me just as much as I helped him. Bill was truly an amazing person who loved with his whole heart. He deeply loved his family, and most of all, his boy, Chance. Bill had wonderful stories about his life, but his favorite ones were always about his granddaughters. He will be deeply missed and forever loved by so many.”
