Willis Supe

Megie Funeral Home is assisting the Family

Obituary via Megie Funeral Home

Willis Supe, age 94, passed away May 3, 2023. Will had a very humble start growing up in the Cincinnati area down around Red Bank Road. His parents, Whitey and Rose, raised him, his brother Bob and his sister Rosella to work hard and love hard. Will went to Central Vocational, which later became Cincinnati State. The Supe family were vegetable farmers. As a teenage boy, Will would be up well before the sun delivering vegetables for the retail market and moving manure for the gardens. About the time the sun would come up, he would head back home as his mom & dad were getting up for breakfast. He would spend the rest of his day working in the greenhouses with his dad.

Later Will would be deployed as an Army radio operator overseas in the Korean War. He was proud of his service to his Country. Upon returning from the war, he briefly went to work for the Ford Motor Company. In 1954, he married his beautiful wife, Joan Latham. Soon after he went to work for a Cincinnati treasure, Pat Swallens. He worked for Mr. Swallens, even before there was an actual store front, selling from the Swallens’ garage. As their relationship grew, Will became the General manager at Red Bank Swallens. After a few years, Will began selling boats. He was hugely successful at starting and growing Swallens Marine.

Through the years, Will and Joan had three children: Cheryl, Linda and Steve. They gave him the grandchildren and great-grandchildren he cherished. Family was very important to Will. He would say, “It’s good to work hard and play hard”. The weekends and vacations were spent with family and friends boating on the Ohio River. You would often see the Supe Sails heading upriver to beach across from Coney Island. So many of his dear friends lived and worked with him at Swallens. These friendships lasted over generations. The children from these friendships carry on these bonds still to this day.

After Will retired from Swallens Marine, he worked for a time for Kesslering Marine, and he ran Shelter Cove. Boats were his passion. Will loved his neighbors dearly. The highlight of the day was sitting out in his driveway with the neighborhood crew, puffing on a cigar. You would be sure to find the pups, Olive and Diesel, sitting at his feet.

The last 5 months for Will were unexpected. His health was a struggle. He spent his last 3 months at what he lovingly called “The Country Club”, better known as the VA Home in Georgetown, Ohio. There he found a group of angels that loved on him and cared for him every day. He made many new friends and lots of memories with the angels that cared for him.

Will led a long fulfilling life of great courage and wisdom and has left his mark on many. He was a gift to all who knew him, and to know him was to love him.

Will is survived by his children: Cheryl (Jeff) Richards, Linda Supe and Steve (Mia) Supe; his sister, Rosella “Sis” Supe; grandchildren: Holly (Eric), Nicholas (Ashley), Tanner (Miranda), Andrew (Lisa), DeeAnna, and Melissa; great-grandchildren: Chloe, Braden, Eli, Spencer, Rosella and Kennedy. Willis was preceded in death by his parents, William and Rose (née Seimers) Supe; his wife, Joan (née Latham) Supe; his brother, Robert Supe; and grandson, Adam Richards. Visitation will be held Friday May 5, 2023, at Megie Funeral Home and Crematory, 529 Main St., Milford, Ohio from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
