Nicholas James Hurr

With a heavy heart but a spirit of celebration, we announce the passing of Nicholas James Hurr, affectionately known as “Nick,” who departed this world on October 9, 2025, at the age of 70. Born on April 12, 1955, in Middletown, Ohio, Nick was a cherished son, father, brother, and grandfather who lived life with passion and joy.

Nick is survived by his children, Anthony (Michelle) Hurr and Megan (Ryan) Thompson, his siblings, Shannon Behler, Cecilia Lawhorn, and Mark (Terri) Hurr.

Nicholas was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Elizabeth Hurr (nee McClanhan), his brother Michael Hurr, and his nephew Rob Behler.

Above all, Nick treasured his family. He was a proud grandfather to Ryan, Ryland, Ryleigh, and Ryze. He enjoyed spending time with each of them. He shared countless joyful moments with his grand dogs, Tucker and Max. Nick had a close-knit relationship with his siblings, Shannon, Cecilia, Mark, and the late Michael, which was characterized by warmth and laughter.

Nick was raised Catholic, attending Our Lady of Rosary in grade school and later Roger Bacon High School. He served as President of the Knothole League District 32 and the Olympian Club, roles that showcased his dedication to his community and the youth he loved to mentor. Even after his marriage to Christine, the mother of his children, concluded after 25 years, they remained close friends, exemplifying the kindness and respect that defined Nick’s relationships.

Nick was a beloved youth baseball, softball, football, and basketball coach, proudly sharing his love for the game with his son Anthony and daughter Megan. His enthusiasm for sports extended to being a lifelong fan of the Cincinnati Reds, Cincinnati Bengals, and UC Bearcats.

Outside of work and coaching, Nick was a man of many interests. He enjoyed classic and western movies, with a particular fondness for the series “Gunsmoke.” His love for history, especially the Civil War, was something he eagerly shared with those around him.

To honor Nick’s life and legacy, services will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at the Arlington Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 2155 Compton Road, 45231 (follow the blue line upon entering the memorial park). Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM followed by a memorial service at 12:30 PM, leading into the graveside service at 1:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, we encourage donations to be made in memory of Nick’s life to the charity of your choice. Nick will be dearly missed but will continue to live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
