Barbara Anne Carney

May 18, 1942 – January 2, 2024

Barbara Anne Carney

Barbara Anne Carney, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, peacefully passed away on January 2, 2024, at the age of 81, in Cincinnati, OH. She was born on May 18, 1942, in Cincinnati, OH, to the late Raymond and Elizabeth Beesten.

Barbara was a compassionate and kind-hearted woman who dedicated her life to serving others and advocating for animal welfare. She had a special fondness for elephants and cats, finding solace and joy in their presence. Barbara’s love for animals extended beyond her personal life as she actively supported various animal welfare organizations.

Barbara was cherished by her children, Dan (Karen) Carney, Maureen (Mark) Cooper, Brian (Stephanie) Carney, and Erin Carney. She was a proud and doting grandmother Logan (Sharon), Austin (Amber), Megan, Lauren (Tommy), Madison, Chase, and Alyssa, and a loving great-grandmother to Delaney, Henry, and Kaleb. Her family meant the world to her, and she treasured every moment spent with them.

Professionally, Barbara had a successful career as a manager in the banking industry, having dedicated many years of service to PNC. She was highly regarded for her strong work ethic, leadership skills, and unwavering commitment to excellence.

In her free time, Barbara enjoyed immersing herself in nature and sharing her passion for the environment as a nature guide at Sharon Woods, part of the Hamilton County Parks system. It was there that she formed a special bond with her dear friend, Fred, as they explored the beauty and serenity of the park together. She was a big fan of the Cincinnati Bengals and Cincinnati Reds.

Barbara will be remembered for her loving nature, her warm smile, and her genuine concern for others. Her laughter and joy were infectious, and she had a way of making everyone around her feel appreciated and valued. Barbara’s legacy of compassion, kindness, and dedication will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.

A memorial service to celebrate Barbara’s life will be held on January 12, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the Lakeside Mausoleum Chapel, located at 2145 Compton Road, Cincinnati, OH 45231(following the red line to the chapel). Burial will take place after the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Barbara’s memory to her favorite animal welfare organizations or to the Hamilton County Parks to support their conservation efforts and The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee.

We will forever cherish the memories we shared with Barbara and the profound impact she had on our lives. May her soul rest in eternal peace.

“My condolences to all of the Carneys and other extended family and friends on the passing of Barb. I first met Barb when I was just a child accompanying my parents to Barb and Dan’s wedding and the reception later in the day. She was so nice to me then and her kindness and gentle spirit was always apparent when I’d see her throughout the years. May she rest in peace and may her family take comfort in knowing of our respect and affection for her.”
