A DEATH
HAS OCCURRED
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Carl Otis Smith, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Carl was born on May 1, 1942, in Detroit, MI, and was ushered into eternal rest on December 5, 2024. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories in the hearts of his family and friends.
Married for an incredible 58 years to his devoted wife, Anna Smith, Carl was a man known for his strong will and opinions. He had a talent for making others laugh, and despite being a private person, he easily connected with those around him. Family meant the world to Carl, and he spent his life supporting and guiding those he loved, whether through his wise advice, helping with home repairs, or offering financial assistance.
Carl’s passion for baseball in his younger years never faded as he recalled his days as a pitcher. Later in life, he enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, cheering on the Bengals, and eating meals out. His love for adventure saw him travel to new places and try new things. He also had a creative side taking pride in photography and crafting beautiful woodwork, from clocks to Christmas decorations.
He was a joker at heart, always ready to share a laugh, and in the early years he cherished every moment camping with his children—Parrie, Randy, and Shelia—turning each trip into an unforgettable adventure. His grandchildren and great grandchildren adored him, particularly when they would hear him do his memorable Donald Duck impression. Playtime with grandpa was truly magical, filled with laughter and joy that will forever be etched in their memories.
Carl retired after 30 years of dedicated service as an electrician for the City of Cincinnati. He loved working on his home projects, from knocking out walls to adding bathrooms, always keeping his living space welcoming and functional.
Carl is survived by his loving wife, Anna; children Parrie Stumph, Randy (Christina Saba) Smith, and Shelia (Robert) Gollaway; grandchildren Jamie (Callie) Dozier, Kayla (Alex Dase) Smith, Brooke (Jack Martini) Gollaway, Wyatt Gollaway, Megan Saba, and Monica Saba;, great-grandchildren Clea Smith, Axton Dase, Elliott Dase, and Ellery Dozier.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Linda Smith (nee Perry), his grandchild, Morgan Gollaway, his great grandchild, Emmaline Dozier, his brothers, Clarence “Kenny” Smith, and Donald Smith.
A special celebration of Carl’s life will begin with a Visitation at Arlington Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 2155 Compton Road, 45231 on December 9, 2024, at 11:00 am, followed by a Service at 12:00 pm. Burial in the Mausoleum will immediately follow.
Join us as we honor the life of a remarkable man who dedicated his days to loving his family, making them laugh, and creating beautiful memories together. Carl will be dearly missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
