Cheryl Hill: A Life Celebrated

Cheryl Bonnell Hill, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away at home on December 22nd, 2023, at the age of 81. Born on October 21st, 1942, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Cheryl touched many lives and left a lasting mark on those who knew her.

Daughter to the late Lawrence Bonnell and Ida Larison Wright, she was preceded in death by her elder brother Richard Bonnell and survived by her younger brother Gary (Karen) Bonnell. Beloved mother of two sons, Michael (Monica) Hill, and Stephen (Krista) Hill, she was also a loving grandmother to Alexa (Dalton) Lacy and a great-grandmother to Dax, Gemma, and Stella.

Cheryl found true companionship with her partner in life, Jack McLaren, with whom she shared 22 wonderful years and many adventures. Their bond was a testament to the power of love, and their commitment to each other endured until the end.

Cheryl had a playful side. She loved ice cream and other sweets. She enjoyed cooking and baking for others, and always wanted to make sure everyone had enough to eat and felt welcome in her home. She loved nature and gardening, and took pleasure in feeding birds and other wildlife in her backyard. She also enjoyed playing cards, dominos, and other games with family and friends.

Cheryl had an adventurous spirit, and was passionate about traveling to new places around the world. She loved going on cruises and spending time near the ocean. Whether it was bungee jumping, exploring nature in the Galapagos Islands, or attempting to ride a mountain bike down a volcano in Hawaii, she created lasting memories that will not be forgotten by those who accompanied her on those journeys.

While Cheryl’s physical presence may be gone, her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her. She leaves behind a family that loved her dearly. In this time of mourning, may all who grieve find solace in their cherished memories of Cheryl, celebrating a life well-lived and a soul deeply loved. Her love and generous support will be remembered always.

To honor Cheryl’s memory, a funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on January 20th, 2024, in Lakeside Chapel at Arlington Memorial Gardens. Following the service, Cheryl’s ashes will be buried in the Prayer Garden at Arlington in accordance with her wishes.
