Gene “Pop” Peace, a devoted Christian, proud Marine veteran of World War II, loving father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully in Guntersville, Alabama at the home of his son and daughter-in-law.
Born in Whitley County, Kentucky, Gene lived a life marked by faith, service, humility, and love for his family and community. Gene faithfully served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He carried the values of courage, honor, and dedication throughout his life, quietly inspiring those around him with his strength and character.A devoted follower of Christ, Gene and Ann were longtime members of Socialville Baptist Church where they sang in the choir, faithfully served the church, and formed many lifelong friendships. After moving to Alabama, Gene became a cherished member of Corinth Baptist Church in Albertville, where he was affectionately known by everyone as “Pop.” His warm smile, gentle wisdom, and faithful spirit touched countless lives.During his years in Alabama, Pop became something of a local celebrity. He was an official member of the “Jack’s Liar’s Club” which brought out the fun side of Pop; he was featured on the front page of our local newspaper for Veterans Day; he “starred” in a heartfelt interview with Pastor Brock McCullars which is available on YouTube titled “Interview with Bro Gene Peace”; he also was honored through a recorded interview by Valor’s Voice preserving his experiences and memories as a WWII veteran for future generations; he was also given the opportunity to speak at a Veterans banquet.
Gene leaves behind a loving family who will forever treasure his memory: his son Gary Peace (Shelley); granddaughter Jennifer Avenido (Jay); grandson Adam Peace (Christina); great-grandchildren Arden, Hayden, Mariah, and Adalynne.
Known for his unwavering faith, servant’s heart, and deep love for family and friends, Pop leaves behind a legacy of kindness, devotion, and quiet strength that will continue for generations.
Though deeply missed on earth, his family rejoices knowing he is now at peace in the presence of his Savior, reunited with those he loved so dearly. Special thanks to Pop’s “girls” at Shepherd’s Cove Palliative and Hospice Care for showing kindness and love to Pop every time their sweet faces entered our door.
