Floy Jane Davis, age 102, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2026.
Born on February 3, 1924, in Pall Mall, Tennessee, Floy was the daughter of Maudie (née Brooks) and John Sowders.
She is survived by her beloved son, Barry (Vera) Davis; daughters-in-law Betty Davis and Anna Davis; cherished grandchildren Bernard “Buz” (Jessica) Davis II, Kathy Fryman, Cindy (Dan) Lyons, Derek (Shannon) Davis, Teri (Tony) Grainger, Toni (Russ) Langford, Jeff Davis, Andy Davis, and Ben (Chris) Davis; fourteen treasured great-grandchildren; thirteen great-great-grandchildren; and many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her devoted husband of 60 years, Dolphus B. Davis, whom she married on July 5, 1941; her children Bernard Davis, Brenda Johnson, and Boyd Davis; her grandchildren Lisa Manley and Doug Davis; and her siblings Willie Sowders, Mack Sowders, Noble Sowders, Travis Sowders, Lonsie Sowders, Flora Faust, and Martha McFarland.
Floy and Dolphus moved to Cincinnati in 1941, where they built a life centered on faith, family, and hard work. Floy took immense pride in her family, her home, and her cooking. Holidays were filled with love, laughter, family gatherings, and her famous homemade fudge, carefully boxed and given to everyone she loved. She continued making fudge for her family until she was 100 years old.
Though times were often modest, no one ever left Floy’s home hungry. There was always a pot of beans, chili, or soup on the stove, fresh cornbread or potato pancakes on the counter, or boiled potatoes ready to share. Countless memories were made sitting on her patio, eating together and talking for hours. Her home was a place of warmth, comfort, and unconditional love.
Floy was truly the heart of her family. As the matriarch, she provided strength, wisdom, and unwavering love through generations. At 102 years old, she was affectionately known as the family’s queen, and her presence will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her.
Floy was a member of Resounding Joy Church (previously Pleasant Run Presbyterian church) and a longtime member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Mt. Healthy Chapter #365.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Floy’s life on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at Resounding Joy Church, 8735 Cheviot Road. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. A brief committal service will follow at Arlington Memorial Gardens, 2145 Compton Road. Following the burial, the family welcomes everyone to join them for lunch in the fellowship hall at Resounding Joy Church. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Cincinnati in appreciation for the compassionate care they provided to Floy and her family.
