Frederick Garland Cox, age 95, of Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 17, surrounded by love.
Born on February 15, 1930 to Andrew and Cleo (nee Stevens) Cox in Bellefontaine, Ohio. Fred lived a life marked by quiet strength, deep faith, and heartfelt gratitude. He was a simple man in the best sense of the word — kind, gentle, thankful, and content with life’s blessings. A man of strong faith, Fred trusted deeply in the Lord and lived with gratitude for every day he was given. He carried himself with humility, treating others with kindness and compassion. His dedication to his family was beyond measure. Those who knew him will remember his gentle spirit, steady strength, and thankful heart. He never met a stranger and was often referred to as the unofficial official greeter at church. He will also be remembered for his great love of singing and sharing his faith and testimony through music. He was singing up until his passing.
Fred proudly served his country in the United States Army. During his service, he sang in the Winged Victory Chorus, using his voice to uplift spirits and honor God and country. His time in the military remained a meaningful and treasured part of his life.
He is survived by his daughter Debbie Barrow (Louis Barrow), daughter-in-law Cindy (Dan), grandchildren Kyle (Betsy), Abby (Ben), Ben (Hannah), Libby (Christopher), Matthew, Sarah and Jonathan, and his great grandchildren Kodiak, Aurora, Caroline, Madeleine, Sterling, Calla, Gabriella, Bodhi, Ruby, Boone, Joel, Johnny, Molly. Also survived by many nieces.
He is preceded in death by his wife Barbara Cox (nee Wilgus), son Greg Cox, grandson Joel Barrow and his siblings Don (Erma) Cox and Fern (Jack) Hunt.
Visitation will be January 23, 2026 from 9 – 11AM at Paul R. Young Funeral Home (Mt. Healthy). A funeral service will immediately follow. The family is grateful for all prayers and expressions of sympathy.
