Genevieve A. “Jenny” (nee Leahy) Gruber, a beloved matriarch and cherished friend passed away peacefully from this world on Saturday, September 13, 2025, just shy of her 91st birthday. Born on September 24, 1934, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Loraine (nee Holzhauer) and late Henry J. Leahy. Jenny will always be remembered for her warmth, laughter, and indomitable spirit.
Jenny was the devoted wife of the late James A. “Jim” Gruber and a lovingly fierce mother to her children, Lori (Andy) Boardman, Timothy (Mary Beth) Gruber, and Karen (Greg) Pletikapich. She was an adoring grandmother to Stephanie (Dan) Harrigan, Nicholas (Savanah) Boardman, Adam Boardman, Ryan Shelton, Jacque Shelton, TJ (Nicole) Gruber, Alex Pletikapich and Connor Pletikapich and a proud great-grandmother to twelve great-grandchildren, each of whom was a source of boundless joy and pride in her life. She was preceded in death by her siblings, David Leahy and Susan Leahy.
With her infectious love for life, Jenny found joy in the little things-shopping excursions that felt like treasure hunts, line dancing with friends that turned ordinary days into celebrations, and those thrilling days at the casino where laughter echoed the loudest. Her heart was full when nestled amongst her grandkids, cheering on each of their passions, be it on the playing field, in a theatre or during family gatherings. She cherished moments spent engrossed in books and crossword puzzles, allowing her curious mind to wander and explore.
Family and friends will gather on Wednesday (September 24) at St. Ann Church, 2900 W. Galbraith Rd., to celebrate Jenny’s extraordinary life. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m., leading into a heartfelt Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. It will be a time to reminisce, share stories, and reflect on a life deeply lived-the essence of Jenny echoing in every shared laugh and tear.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions to the Make A Wish Foundation, 2545 Farmers Drive, Suite 300, Columbus, OH 43235 or Blood Cancer United (formerly known as LLS), PO Box 98018, Washington DC, 20090-8018-two causes close to Jenny’s heart, ensuring her legacy of kindness and generosity continues. As we come together to honor a remarkable woman, we remember a life that shone brightly, leaving behind the sweetest memories that will linger in our hearts forever.
