George was born on December 22, 1937, to Mattie Lee Laws in Enid, Mississippi. April 26, 1969, he and Bobbie Smith were united in matrimony by Father Clem Busemeyer at St. Joseph Church.  This marriage has lasted 56 years.   He is preceded in death by his sisters Willie T. Laws and Amanda Lake, his son Prentiss L. Madkins, grandson Joshua Price, and granddaughter Mercedes Smith.

After graduating from Alan Carver High School in 1955 in Charleston, Mississippi, he enlisted in the United States Army.  After being honorably discharged from the army, he stayed in Mississippi for a short time before moving to Cincinnati in 1959, where he and his brother started their first business.

 An entrepreneur, he co-owned a bakery, a vending machine company, a couple of restaurants and an auto shop, which was his passion.

 As a child, George was baptized at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Enid, Mississippi.  After becoming a member of New Life Missionary Baptist Church in Cincinnati, he joined the auxiliary Brotherhood of New Life Missionary Baptist Church and the Cincinnati Chapter of the National Charleston Day Organization.

He was an avid sportsman who excelled as a marksman and fisherman. 

A gentle man, George was kindhearted and easy going with a special devotion to his mother.  He met no stranger as he dedicated his life to helping many friends and strangers.  

During his lengthy illness, he was given quality care by his two dedicated caregivers: Michelle Akins whom we consider our bonus child, and Nicole Lawrence. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Bobbie J. Laws; his sons Kevin and Shawn Laws of Cincinnati, Ohio; granddaughters Mariyana McClain (George) of Atlanta, Georgia and Ella Laws of Beaver Creek, Ohio; his brother Willie B. Laws (Betty) of Cincinnati, Ohio; and special cousin Iola Simms.
