A DEATH
HAS OCCURRED
Herman Alex Prewitt, a cherished husband, beloved brother, and proud World War II veteran, passed away on January 9, 2025, just shy of his 100th birthday. Born on January 20, 1925, in Williamsburg, KY, he spent much of his life in Cincinnati, OH.
Herman was a steadfast general laborer, proudly working at the Andrew Jergens Company and serving in the Navy during WWII, where he created many lasting memories on bases in the Philippines, Manus Island, and Guadalcanal.
Herman will be deeply missed by his devoted wife, Diane, to whom he was married for 49 wonderful years. He is also survived by his two beloved sisters, Aileen Gaynor and Edna Mace, and an abundance of nieces and nephews who were fortunate to know his warm spirit.
Preceded in death by his parents, James and Mae Prewitt (nee Barnett) and eight siblings, Lloyd, Howard, Myrtle, Flora, Norma, Raymond, Willard, and JB. Herman was the eighth child out of eleven, leaving behind a legacy of love and family ties that spanned generations.
With a great sense of humor, Herman found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved watching sports on television, especially supporting the UK Wildcats and the Cincinnati Reds. He spent many hours playing cards, and games like Yahtzee and Aggravation, often with Diane over breakfast. Family reunions brought everyone together, and he especially cherished his close friendship with Julie and Jaclyn, whom he held dear to his heart. Herman loved vacations to Clearwater, Florida, where he enjoyed shopping at the Outlet Malls.
The family will welcome guests for a visitation at the Arlington Memorial Gardens Lakeside Mausoleum Chapel on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at 12:30 PM. A funeral service will follow at 1:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Herman Alex Prewitt to Bridge of Hope Church, 2680 Roosevelt Avenue, Cincinnati, OH 45231 or https://thebridgecincy.com/.
As we celebrate Herman’s life, we invite all who knew and loved him to join us in honoring this remarkable man whose laughter and love will forever resonate in our hearts.
