Obituary via Frederick Funeral Hom

In loving memory of Janet Joan Amend, born on November 17, 1933, in Georgetown, Ohio to her parents the late Luther and Bernice Fite. She peacefully departed this life on September 26, 2024, at the age of 90. Joan was a cherished wife, devoted mother, beloved grandmother, dear great grandmother and caring sister.  She will forever be remembered for her loving nature, creative talents, and the warmth she brought to all those around her.

Joan put herself through college,  earning an Associate’s Degree in Business from the University of Cincinnati.  She worked as a business administrator for Western Southern, H&R Block and Shillito/Lazarus for many years and made many friends.

Joan was a beloved wife of 47 years to the late Jerome H. Amend. She was a devoted mother to her children, Doug (Betsy) Amend and Laura (Steve) Luchsinger, a dear sister to the late Dale E. Fite. She was a beacon of love to her grandchildren, Mark (Danielle) Amend and Matthew (Grace) Amend and a source of joy to her great-grandchildren, Autumn, Amelia, and Margot Amend. Alongside her family, she shared a tapestry of love, compassion, and cherished memories.

Joan expressed her love and creativity through knitting and quilting, hand crafting beautiful afghans, sweaters, and quilts for family, friends and charities. These were a testament to her skills and generosity, touching the lives of many. She also enjoyed solving jigsaw puzzles and playing cards with her friends and family.

A visitation to honor and celebrate Joan’s remarkable life will take place at St. Ann Church, 2900 W Galbraith Rd, on Friday, October 4, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 pm. In honor of her memory, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 6060.

Joan will forever be remembered for her loving nature, creative talents, and the warmth she brought to all those around her. May her legacy of love and kindness continue to live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
